So do these guys purposeful place tin out in the woods so they have places to find snakes?
Plenty of them do. One guy I know found La.’s Holy Grail, the Louisiana milk snake, and started laying out tin. Cultivated a site where he can flip multiple milk snakes on command now (like 4 in one shot).
But I wouldn’t want him to say “here’s the coordinates to my tin, go find you a La. milk” - because to me that’s not finding one myself.
One of the big Florida guys with over 3 million followers combined on TikTok/Insta is staying at my house this weekend. He has an innate ability to find habitat, get on satellite, and find tin flip sites. The dude is incredible at it.
Put a snake in front of me and I’ll catch it, but I’m a rank amateur compared to those guys when it comes to finding snakes on that level. Doing my best to learn from them though.
Herping is an entirely different game now than it was when I was growing up, and these young guys today can actually make a living at it through social media.
