LSU's baseball program prides itself in leading the nation in attendance for many years. Last night's game against Nicholls had a small crowd but the official attendance was reported as 10,465. The crowds for LSU games are seldom anywhere close to 10,000. Is this simply based on season ticket sales and not on the number of fans who actually show up?

Season tickets are 100% sold out each game. They count that.

Have you been counting them? But the numbers are almost always "paid attendance" so not necessarily butts in seats.

The NCAA attendance report is paid attendance. LSU baseball stopped reporting actual attendance a long time ago. I think it was shortly after the new box opened. They would include both actual and paid in the box score.

Not aware of any school reporting actual these days.

Nobody announces actual anymore. LSU was pretty much the last to do so but stopped because saying 10,000 paid with 4,000 actual attendance was not a good look

It’s a joke; it’s tickets sold and not people actually in attendance. So why do they call it attendance? Too lazy to count heads coming through the gates.

The "LSU leads the nation in attendance for umpteen years" bit is played out.

LSU may lead the nation in "Tickets sold", but not in actual asses in the seats.

The attendance number LSU gives is the number of tickets sold. It's real name is paid attendance. That is what any attendance number is in any sport for any school or professional team.

LSU gave the number of butts in seats or actual attendance until the end of the 2014 season. He's a box score from the final regular season home game of 2014:

quote:

Attendance: 10567
Game notes: Actual Attendance: 3,511

Here's the box score to open the 2015 season. Actual attendance has been removed:

quote:

Attendance: 11122

LSU was the only school in the country that gave out actual attendance numbers. But in a way it hurt them because LSU was having way too many 10,000 paid, 4,000 actual games and it made them look bad.
