Yea, so what. Go get the guy that’s a cornerstone of your franchise for the next decade, at a premium position.

Would be nice to not have to, but I’d rather do that than sit back and draft what’s left at 14

swallowing the fact we just did this drafting Penning makes me sick, unless the Saints come out and say we feel very confident in turning Penning into an outstanding LG on this team.

This makes no sense.

Overpaying for an OT when we can let teams over-draft players and get a much more valuable BPA at 14.

There is no reason we have to target any specific position other than maybe QB (because we are tied to Carr and it doesn't make logical sense to waste 3-4 years of a rookie QB deal).

We can do OT, OG, DT, Edge, WR, CB, or TE (if Bowers falls)

If the OTs are gone, we should get a stud to slide to us at 14

I'm with you. I don't think we should be 100% married to never trading back under any circumstances, but I prefer the aggressive philosophy of identifying a guy they really love and have a long-term vision for, and going and getting him with conviction. Within reason, of course. Like OT for example. It seems obvious that it's Alt, then a gap, then 5-6 guys in that next tier. And I've watched a ton of pre-draft show, and there doesn't seem to be any consensus on the order of the guys in that tier. Everybody likes different guys better than others. I have seen every single one of that group listed as the 2nd best OT in the class.

But I bet the Saints have identified one they really like over the others. I'd rather them move up to 12 or something and take that guy rather than waiting and hoping he falls, but if he doesn't, they're stuck taking a guy they "like," but don't "love." I'd rather them swing to take a guy with conviction than sit back and have to "settle" on a guy they don't love and hope he works out. Penning seems like a mis-eval. And it really sucks. But I still prefer they identify they guy they love and go take him with conviction rather than sitting still and crossing their fingers that another team doesn't love him just as much. Just have to be better at identifying the right guys.

It's like the Mahomes thing. There's been a little pushback on the original thinking now that people don't love Sean here anymore, but for the longest time, everybody was praising Sean for identifying Mahomes and being willing to take him much higher than he was predicted. Sean just got unlucky that the Chiefs swept in. Oh well.

I always thought that was bullshite and, before Mahomes even started winning Super Bowls, I thought that was the worst move in his entire Saints' tenure. If you identify a guy--especially a QB--that you think could be the long-term future at a position and are willing to take him at 11 while you still have a HOF QB with a couple of prime years left--if you love a guy that much--you go and fricking get him. You don't give another team a chance to do what the Chiefs did. Go get your fricking guy.

Now, this draft may not have that dude. They legitimately may like a handful of OTs exactly the same and be perfectly fine with whoever falls to 14. I HOPE that's the case. But if they really like 1 in that non-Alt 2nd tier, I'd rather them be aggressive and go get him than hoping he falls to 14 and risk settling for a guy they're "meh" on.
