Travel baseball will never matter like high school ball does though

i know several high school kids that quit their hs team to focus on showcases. that's where the scouts are.

high school ball will always matter more to the average kid that won't play past 12th grade, but kids with legitimate chances of playing at the next level (and their parents) want to play where theyll be seen by the most talent evaluators.

Same with focusing on club volleyball vs HS volleyball.

I agree. But the issue is that parents are delusional. They can't see that high school ball is the end of the line. If 5% of high school baseball players play at the next level, 60% of players and parents think their son is good enough to get to the next level. So HS teams are filled with kids who care about the next level that don't have a realist chance at it. So when more than half of your team cares very little about winning, it causes a weird dynamic.
