I’ve seen them texting while driving, along with the many others holding up traffic on the interstate while texting.

Hopefully this is the point of this bill, lower insurance.

But more than likely…

How about these morons looking down texting on the interstate and Causeway Bridge? It must be almost every 3rd car on the road.

If it is not a primary offense, how will they prove you were using your phone?

Will they be able to confiscate your phone at a traffic stop and look through timestamps?

This is just more fluff for Landry's base. Red meat for boomers

This bill seems to ban any handheld phone use while driving, regardless of location.

What on Earth will all the women do? I see no less than 10-15 women every day driving around holding a phone up to their head like an idiot. They can drive around town in an $80K vehicle, but don't have enough sense to figure out/use hands free.

To address these frickheads driving down the road holding the phone an inch from their mouth and talking to it while on speaker.

I don’t understand this phenomenon because you witness it in modern vehicles that certainly have Bluetooth capabilities, if not plug-ins.

How about we ticket or impound every other car with no license plate driving around BR first. If they can’t enforce that, no way they will enforce this.

I hate people who are on their phones at red lights.

I used to give them the courtesy tap honk when it turned green. Now, if I can see they are on the phone, and are sitting after it turns green, I lay on my horn.

What's interesting is that more often than not they all flip me off like I am the a-hole in the situation and not them for being so self-centered that they hold everyone else up and cause some people deeper in the line to miss the green light.

I am OK with keeping people off their cell phones no matter what while driving. People are too distracted by them.

What I am not OK with is this has the potential for abuse by LEO.

It never fails that I'm behind these jackasses and they barely make the light and I have to sit through another cycle. I'd bet cell phones are the #1 cause of accidents these days.

Still waiting for them to make actual progress in this state beside more big government over reach.

These fricks are a waste space

As is the case with all traffic citations, burden of proof will fall on you. Cop will claim he witnessed you on your phone, and that will be good enough to warrant a fine. You now need to prove you were not on your phone

The bill specifically says law enforcement officers cannot use this law to seize or search your phone at a traffic stop. It says the officer must have a “clear and unobstructed view” of you using a phone while driving.

I think it’s unlikely to make a huge difference but it’s past time to “officially” ban handheld phone usage while driving, IMO.
