More car insurance BS. Time to switch again

Been with Farm Bureau since I bought my truck. This has been my premium for each six month period. No accidents, no claims, no tickets, spotless driving record.
Initial premium: $672
First renewal: $878
Second renewal (just received yesterday): $1,074
Hopped online and got quotes from GEICO and Progressive for the same coverage.
GEICO quote: $801
Progressive quote: $658
Guess I’ll be switching BACK to Progressive because every company I’ve been with does the same jacking up of premiums each renewal. Do they not want to keep customers or do they just depend on people blindly renewing despite the rate hikes?

My guess would be the blind renewals.

They are playing you off of each other.
If you can’t see this, you are a blind SOB and exactly the type of shill they are looking for.

You need to educate yourself about underwriting. The first year they charged the normal rate. If you didn’t have a claim that increases the odds that you’ll have a claim the next year. Another year with no claim raises them again. You are basis ticking time bomb. It’s all about probability.

Learned last week that in FL at least, a home ins provider can send you a policy,, you sign it, they rhen cash your check for the full premium and then come back three weeks later and say... You need to fix this wiring or plumbing or _____ issue by x date or they will cancel your policy. They have that time to "final" underwrite your policy

Learned of something new from my agent the other day because I was in the similar boat.
No one else came in cheaper, so she just requoted the same policy from the existing company and it came back much cheaper. There was a technical name for it, but I forget. Basically it's just asking them to take another look, and they agree to do so or sometimes not. It worked for me and came back 630 dollars cheaper. This was with progressive, so when they jack up your rate next year, try that with them.

I've been using Progressive for over two decades with zero trouble. A guy hit me on Airline HWY once and the adjuster drove to my house, printed out a check on the spot and I was done.
My insurance has steadily been going down over the years due to zero accidents and the loyalty program. I don't use any of that "driver tracking" type crap though.

Nothing more expensive than cheap insurance. Farm Bureau is not cheap but they pay without hassle when you have a claim- at least in my experience with them.

Got to raise rates to offset the cost incurred from being sued by all the scum bag billboard sue mongering lawyers in LA.

Nat'l General
2022 $1,262
2023 $1,503
2024 $2,229
Car is paid off, 10 years old. No wrecks or tickets in probably 20 years. Haven't had a claim since 2001(I was in high school on my parents insurance). Husband has company truck, so I guess we get penalized for only having one vehicle.

Smh my insurance won’t cover my cars anymore for some stupid reason so need to get 2 insurance for 2 cars instead of bundling

quote:I've been with State Farm for decades and my rates barely increase from time to time. In fact, one of my cars was totaled and the new one which is the same model, newer year only costs about $150 more per year and I have high limits. I've shopped around and it seems I could possibly save about $600 per year total for the bundle of cars and home but I'm not certain it's apples to apples and I'd worry about what OP mentioned with subsequent hikes.

A big provider in Alabama is ALFA. I had them for several years but finally had to switch in February because of how high my premium had gotten (just one vehicle) and the rate at which it was increasing every six months. Have a friend who uses State Farm and really likes his agent. I got a quote through that agent and it was dramatically lower than my ALFA premium, so I switched.

I renewed my policy March 1 with Progressive at $2,100 for a truck and mid-size SUV.
I got an email from Credit Karma saying they can lower my auto insurance with Progressive. The link took me to another quote from Progressive for the same exact coverage but it came it at $1,200... I cancelled my March policy and bought this one. I am getting a pro-rated refund of $1,600 which means I am gaining another month and 20 days of coverage AND a refund of $400 back into my pocket...
