They have a place, but it is usually on a kids plate. It doesn't take that long to cook proper grits, if you have about 15-20 minutes. Every Saturday morning I make cheese grits and eggs. My youngest is 5 and always eats them with me. The others are about 50/50 if they want either, but he always does. This past Saturday he even asked me if we had time to cook grits. He will ask for them during the week sometimes and I have to tell him we don't have time since he's getting ready for school. But he knows we have them on Saturday and looks forward to it.

I made an osso buco the other week and initially served it with fancy stone ground grits that take 30 minutes to cook. They were very good and well-received. The next day, we had leftovers and I made quick grits. In both I added some Better than Bullion and cheese. Both were well-received.
I think I may have even liked the quick grits better. I will make more of the fancy stone ground grits because I need to use up the bag, but I don't think I will buy more. The Lakeside Yellow Quick Grits suit me just fine.

I love grits, plus they're nice and filling.
I only do butter, salt, and a good amount of black pepper on mine. I never do cheese for some reason. I need to do that next time.
