Basically if you want your kid to be an “older” senior do it before 6th grade. People love to say this is being done specifically for sports but in my experience is more so for maturity purposes in which athletic maturity is a component of that but not the only one. Mental and emotional maturity are equal components. In fact many private schools STRONGLY ENCOURAGE summer born boys to start school late.
