Is it common for them to not let you actually fish?

It is common for the Capt and Deckhand to hand feed the line out when you’re chunking. Most of the time they show you what to do and let you take it over.

I see it as an ego thing. Sometimes the new ones are eager to put meat on the dock so they can show the other Capt’s they know what they’re doing and get some content for future bookings. They lose sight that it’s about showing the customer a good time, teaching about “how to”, and giving a well rounded experience. Unfortunately they can jump right to micro managing so they can prove they fit in. Sounds like they struck out all around. An outlier for Paradise as I’ve been with a couple of their boats, even late switched Capt’s, and had great trips

I didn’t fish with paradise. We went with voodoo. At one point the captain cussed out the deckhand for not reeling on a bite. Deckhand was managing two poles. One of the six of us could have been doing it. Levelwinds and circle hooks aren’t fricking rocket science.
