What about Stryper? They didn’t really have any huge radio or MTV hits other than “Honestly”. Lots of solid 80’s metal tunes that these guys put out, and they were unique in those days because they were a Christian metal band. They were one of the first 80’s hard rock bands I got into, when I bought their Greatest Hits CD back in the day.

They had two albums that went gold and a third that went platinum. The songs “Honestly” and “Free” at times were the #1 requested songs on MTV and “Calling On You” spent time as the #2 requested song on MTV.
That’s not “obscure” at all.
