Hopefully this rain continues all week in SWMS

I don't think you need to worry about that.... I'm worried about my seeds drowning out

I’m on a plateau. We missed damn near every rain DURING the drought last summer.

I’ll take it ALL

I sprayed Clethodim and Butyrac last week on our Durana plots. I plan on top seeding joint vetch soon. Is there an issue with finding JV seed right now?

2 weeks ago I called the one in McComb and they had none. Said they were not sure when they would be getting some in.

Butyrac won’t kill the durana this late? I also have never sprayed both at the same time.

Yes. My local co-op was supposed to get in a full pallet last week. They got 4 bags. Supposed to get in more this week but I don't know how much.

Apparently there is only one producers of JV seed in the country. The reason I suspect this is because this year the only seed that's available has the hull on it. And when asked everyone is saying: "the supplier decided not to hull it this year". And I'm hearing that from Florida to Tennessee to Texas. Sounds like an opportunity to get into the wildlife seed business.....

He told my guy that he drills vetch at 4lbs/A

That seems light to me. If I'm doing a big field -- like 10 acres or more -- 5 or 6# might be enough. But smaller fields will need more. And kill plots of half an acre or less will need like 20-25#. That's my take on it.

Seed production. Not for wildlife to eat. Still, I was shocked with it being that low. He is out of Florida if I am correct.

That seems super low to me. This is my fourth year planting JV with a drill. The "normal" hulled seed I planted at a setting of 33 on my small seed box which was similar to red clover and was approximately 8-10#/acre.

With the hulled stuff I had to get it out of my small seed box all it did was clog everything so I mixed it with everything else I was planting at 15-18#/acre.

I first planted some about a month ago and it is just starting to come up and be visible. It will really be another few weeks before I can tell how successful that planting rate was. With the hulled I varied the mix rate in different fields to get a good idea of how each rate worked.

I've never had any issues with it. I sprayed each herbicide in separate tanks but on the same day. Sometimes I use Basagran.

What is the ramification of using the unhulled seeds when top seeding? Guess we'll just need to spread more per acre than usual, correct? The existing stand of clover would act as cover.

I got some Carolina horsenettle in one field.

Can I spray 2-4D on standing food plot?

What do you mean by “standing food plot”?
How much horsenettle you got? They have a hell of a tap root that will help bust a through a hard pan

Like, I’ve got my plots coming up 7 inches in some spots. Don’t want to kill them

Not much horsenettle. Just one field and one little spot or two

You may have trouble spraying something to kill the horse nettle and not your plots.

However we have it in a lot of places it's hard to get rid of if you only have it in one area I would either spray it or pull it up by hand while you still can. it spreads pretty easily and can really be a problem.

It’s been 5-6 weeks since I cut, sprayed and threw out seed. Have some stuff coming up. Haven’t had time to go back and actually check on it.

First black coyote I’ve seen in the 7 years we’ve had this place.
