Eating out vs in since Covid

With the rising costs and shittier service I have definitely cut back on going out to eat, and have noticed others doing the same. Are you seeing the same? Do we start seeing a large number of restaurant closures in the near future?

I never stopped. I don't think it can be transmitted that way.

Mexican joints keep popping up all over the frickin' place.
Can we keep just enough of them to keep the restaurants open and deport the rest? I really like Mexican food.

Town I live in has a population of about 4 thousand. There are 3 Mexican restaurants (about to be a fourth) and 2 Mexican food trucks.

The wife and I decided a while back that we only eat out once every couple of months. When we do, we blow it out at a 5 star steak and/or seafood place.
We’ve found the mid tier restaurants have gone to shite and prefer to cook at. home. Bad service, average food, but still a $100 bill easily. We’d prefer to cook at home and treat ourselves every 2-3 months with a $350 bill but great food and experience. Places we’ve enjoyed:
Eddie Vs
III Forks
Kirby’s Steakhouse
Pappa’s Steakhouse

Many restaurants are booming and lots of places have full parking lots and long waits. It was mentioned several times in a thread in here a few days ago.

post up for an hour and a half and no comment yet about cunnilingus. I'm surprised by the OT this morning

I travel for work a pretty good bit and I have seen no change from the pre Covid days. For a year, there were no restaurants to eat meals that didn’t come in a bag from a drive through. Another couple of years nobody was able to get help, so service was extraordinarily shitty…if at all.
Now though, restaurants are packed every time I go into one. I think all restaurants that were viable businesses are still in business. All that closed have been replaced by another restaurant.

Because grocery store visits are becoming more and more expensive and it’s cheaper now to eat out than it is at home.

We eat out about once every other week including take out. It is just easier to make our own meals.
At this point, I really enjoy cooking on the smoker and my wife enjoys cooking as well. We cook 3-4 times a week and have left overs for the rest. 3 days a week we have some sort of kid activity and I refuse to go the fast food option every week.

No. Everywhere is packed. Seems everyone came out from under their rocks post-lockdown.

Restaurants geared to 25-35 year olds are going to struggle. That’s the demographic struggling the most now.

I love eating out or just grabbing some good fast food. It is a bit more pricey but not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Metairie is turning into Mexico. Need to put a hold on those restaurants. Don’t need anymore.

I've noticed that too, but they don't seem to be good ones.

We are outliers. We've never eaten out in restaurants much. A few times a year for birthdays. Except for vacations where we're forced to go, it's just never been a part of our lives. My high school junior son works at Chipotle and sometimes brings home food. That's the only restaurant food we get.
And none of us are fatties. Unlike other people I know that eat fast food for lunch every day and eat dinner out 3-5 times a week. Fat as hogs. Oh well.
