Going to be in Ireland for 3 days in July.

Realize can’t see everything on the Island. Flying/starting in Dublin.

What would you prioritize?

Advise renting a car or train to different parts of the Island?

3 full days?
Get out of Dublin. You can stay in Dublin for ease of lugging luggage around but take day trips out of Dublin.
Plenty of bus tours that will take you to the Cliffs of Moher, Galway, Kilkenny, rock of Cashel.

I can expand upon those places but just get out of Dublin is my biggest suggestion. I've been 4 times, most recently in March, and less than 50 percent of the people I met in Dublin were Irish.
With that said, Dublin Prison, Irish whiskey museum and trinity college are accross the street from one another and are both quick and great. Jameson is a good tour and we did teeling this March and enjoyed it. Guinness is pretty cool but just takes a while.

Go find pubs that have traditional Irish music.

I've done car rental, busses, and train and they all have advantages but it depends on what interests you.

TLDR: daytrips out of Dublin, or take the train/bus/car to galway and spend a day around there/go to the Cliffs. Second day stay in Kilkenny. If renting a car stop and the rock of Cashel on the way. 3rd day spend in Dublin.

Don't bother renting a car.

With just 3 days everything on the west coast is probably unreachable, so save it for another trip. Just stay in Dublin the whole time and take a day trip by train or guided bus tour to nearby sights on one of those days.

Things to prioritize in Dublin: (1) Trinity College/Book of Kells, (2) Guiness factory (3)) St. Patricks Cathedral and nearby Christ Church cathedral with it's crypt (4) Kilmainhain Gaol prison tour (5) Grab a nightcap in the Temple Bar district (6) St. Stephens Green (7) ride the tram up to Howth in the evening and do the coastal walk then eat dinner at one of the seafood restaurants. (8) if you can squeeze it in, take the bus to Trim to see the castle and cathedral (probably a half day excursion).

Viator has a list of all the guided group tours that operate all day bus tours from Dublin: LINK

Some good ones that cover a lot of ground are (1) Rock of Cashel, Blarney Castle and Cork and (2) Glendalough, Wicklow and Kilkenny.

As mentioned, I would avoid anything that goes all the way to the west coast (Galway, Killarney, Cliffs of Moher, etc.). It's just too far. and I'm guessing 3 days will whet your appetite to make a proper return trip when you can soak up the best of the country.

If you want to plan a day trip on your own, here are some suggestions: (1) train to Belfast where you can take a Black Taxi tour of the "Troubles" sights and have them drop you off at the Titanic museum when finished, then explore city center before taking train back to Dublin. (2) Train to Kilkenny where you can explore most of the town on foot. (3) Train to Athlone and take a Shannon River cruise to Clonmacnois then have a drink at the oldest pub in the world.

We did three days in Ireland in Dec. Flew into Dublin around 3:30pm. Rented car. Checked into hotel and walked to Temple bar area. Next morning went to Trinity college and then drive to Kilkenny. Visited the castle and had lunch at Kytlers Inn. Drove to Rock of Kashel then to Limerick. Saw King John’s castle and dinner at The Locke Pub. Stayed at the Savoy. Loved this hotel.

Next morning drove to Bunratty Castle and toured. Then drove to Cliffs of Mohr. Lunch in Doolin. Drove to Galway and went to Christmas market, Hall of Red Earl, walked down Quay St and Latin Qtr and had dinner.

Had a 10am flight from Dub to Cdg so decided to drive back to Dublin that night. Flew out next morning. While we drove a lot, it wasn’t that bad. Had our three kids with us and had no complaints. Would do it again.

I would get out of Dublin and rent a car.
Drive Straight to Galway (2 hrs) spend the night there and then drive to Cliffs of Moher the next morning. Then loop around to Limerick, see King John's Castle. Could also hit Rock of Cashel.

Drive back to Dublin through Wicklow National Park. Spend the last afternoon in Dublin Temple Bar area.

You won't have time for Dingle Peninsula or the Blarney Castle, but you can still see a lot of Ireland in 3 days. The countryside is beautiful and is the "real" Ireland. Dublin might as well be NYC or London.

I would prioritize the Cliffs over anything in Dublin.
We did the Guinness tour, it was fine but not a must do. We toured the Trinity College Library- again it was fine, but if you skip it you really haven't missed anything. But if you are in Ireland and don't visit the Cliffs then I feel you will have really missed out.
