Check out the Mcmenamins Kennedy School hotel. It's got 4-5 bars in it and a brewery. They bars have a theme like the Principal's office (which was a whiskey and cigar bar. i don't think you can smoke in there anymore tho). Couple restaurants and a movie theater. The hotel rooms are all the old classrooms and still have chalkboards and stuff in them.
It's a unique place. That family, the Mcmenamins, have several more themed bars around Portland that are awesome

Yes, go to the MLS Hotel!
After 11:00 pm. Go to the 3rd bar. Ask for the red door. You will have to ask 3 or more times if they don't know you.

That is extremely cool. I would never have considered an old elementary school would succeed as a neighborhood boutique hotel. The artwork is not my cup of tea but they did an amazing job tying it all together.

Went there for the first time last month and the short time we were around downtown I had no interest in exploring any of it. Just a gross feeling all around. We spent most of our time up in the mountains. They have some gorgeous hikes that are a close drive from Portland up near the Timberline Lodge area. Definitely worth it to drive up there and explore.
