I know nothing about gymnastics but I think Olympics is a hugely different level from college. Also the Olympic girls are younger and in their prime and work on it 24-7. Seems like college gymnasts took a different path and probably too old.
I used to know some people involved in it back in the day.

Basically, it's a matter of age and physical maturity. Those 14 yr olds have flexibility that a 21 yr old can not keep. Remember the girl from around here, who used to be able to literally place her butt on her head? Your spine stops doing that after a few years.

It’s possible all three of our AA competitors for team USA will be over 21

The Olympics upped the age to 16 a long time ago. Biles is an astounding 27 years old. Medicine and a different way of coaching have allowed the duration of a female gymnast's lifespan to go much longer; it's incredible.
