"That's a bingo!"

What is it about Penning that is holding him back the most?
I have not seen anyone make this link, nor am I trying to “start a rumor”; but the timing of his benching occurred right before the report came out that a number of players hadn’t turned on their tablets where the team uploads the weekly game plans

NO
Even if Alt is great we need Penning to play somewhere, and those two picks to turn into decent players. Otherwise Alt may just be a young standout left tackle on a declining aging team.

Even accounting for his injuries and lack of starts its clear that bad coaching (Oline coach fired) and not picking things up quicker has stalled his career. He has more time than many do being a 1st rounder to get things straight. I laugh at those who say dump him now or trade him for a ham samich. Idiots or falcon fans take your pick.

I would offer our 14th & Olave to Chargers a for their 5th pick, the 69th selection, and the 105 pick.

Gee. I'll bite. Who is your pick for two 1st picks?
Posted on 4/21/24 at 1:30 am to stopitnow1
Who in their right mind would want Penning
Posted on 4/21/24 at 8:14 am to Hot Carl
I’d trade back and target Morgan from Arizona

And surely you must be targeting a WR at 5 then right? Because the moment you trade Olave away your WR room becomes shite.

Trading up in the first round always works out great for the Saints
Drafting has been the problem. Trading up just compounds that problem.

I'm trading back from 14 to anywhere from 18 to 25 if possible.
I'll take any of fashanu, Latham, fuaga, or fantanu

It my opinion a lot of it is technical. He needs plenty of work to get right. The game was way to fast for him.
Who knows if he will ever figure it out. I wouldn't bet on it

Penning entering year 3 and he's only started 6 games.
the first year he got hurt twice with different injuries. So, coming into this year to me he was still technically a rookie because of the lack of experience.
that would be my only defense of him because even still this past season, you're not getting a chance to develop after just 5 starts. The 1st half of the Titans game he gave up 3.5 sacks alone though. Also didn't have a good showing against the Texans I think it was.
Like it's been said, do you move him inside to guard? He is better at run blocking than pass blocking but he's probably never played guard so tough to say.

Guys, I did this trade in Madden and won a Super Bowl the following season! I say we roll with it!

The Saints have two tradable assets that they could use to move up in the draft to aquire a higher puck plus additional mid round picks. Olave and Lattimore. Lattimore contract and the implications to the salary make it impossible for the Saints to use him as trade bait. Olave is on his rookie deal entering year three of his professional football career.
With all the free agents the Saints have brought in this off-season it would be a logical move to give up Olave to get tge 5th puck of tge first round of the draft plus a high third and 4th tound puck in return. We might even be able to get a future second round pick in 2025 also.
We draft OT from ND with the pick from the Chargers and draft the WR Franklin from Oregon in the second round to replace Olave.
We could aquire the 5th pick from the Chargers with the additional midround picks and still move down to the 7th draft the OT from Penn State and get even more mid round picks in exchange for moving from 5 to 7.
Buffalo would possible give us picks 28 for Olave along with a 3rd and 4th round pick in the 2024 draft plus a second rounder in 2025.
As fir moving down we keep Olave and move back to either picks 17,18, 19, or 20 and get a third rounder in return for making the move. If we are lucky we could also get a 4th round pick as also.

I feel like they are going ro give him one more training camp at tackle. He is 6'7. I just don't see him working out at guard.

Exactly. He’s still young. 23 year old thousand yard receivers don’t just grow on trees.

Outside of Harrison Jr, Nabers, and Odunze, I don’t see any WR that will come in right away and be as good as Olave has been. Maybe Brian Thomas? And that’s a huge maybe.

No. I'm tired of the Saints making ridiculous trades and not coming away with a top QB.
Trading away two potential starters and one in Penning that still has time to become a contributor is not the way to go for a team with multiple holes.
In fact, this is the line of thinking that got the Saints in trouble when they made the absurd trades for Olave and Penning. They thought they were a player or two away, and really they should have been focusing on a rebuild.
Someone said this team is closer to the 2007 version of the Saints, and I agree. We need to build through the draft and acquire more young, cheap players.

I would do it , that would be insane value
