It looks like there are millions of options out there. Anything that really separates some from others?

I have Gmail with a custom domain (bonus: they’ll let you have like 25 aliases per inbox. So I pay for two inboxes but use 20 names (nurse1@example, nurse2@example….).
Options will have perks/minuses based on the number of inboxes, aliases you want.
I also own a synology box but haven’t gone through the hassle of self hosting because I’m a wimp, and for my use hosting is cheap.

I use Google Workspace which does more than just provide email, but that's included.

Roughly speaking web host provided email is going to provide you with unlimited email addresses and aliases. It won't have company wide calendars and contact lists. It wont have instantaneous new mail notification. There will be a company wide space limitation.
Office 365 and Google Workspaces charge per user. They have compnay wide calendars and contact lists. They have instantaneous new mail notifications. There will be a per user space limitation. You have access to web based office suite. Office 365 has additional tiers that give you access to desktop applications.

Obviously Google and MS have a big chunk of this, but would be good secure options that don't put your data on these major companies systems.

I have a hosting plan that i moved to so i can offer it as a service to customers as well as using it myself. It allows for at least 100 email accounts per domain, plus couple forwarders and alias' per email account. Just gotta shop around for what features you want at best price point.
