I like Eleanor's.

Let's get some discussion rolling...

I'm struggling to understand Max. So initially she takes part in the orgy for John Silver, and notices the page drop out of his clothes and how worried he is about it. So she takes it and he wakes up and they talk about it and she says she knows someone who would buy it (Rackham)? Then she tries to set up the deal for Rackham/Vane to buy the page with the $5k in pearls, and they're supposed to do this at the Wrecks.. OK, fine so far.

Then when they're appraising the pearls Vane pops in pissed at Max because he heard that her guy (Silver) doesn't have the page, but Flint has it, based on the fight with Singleton on the ship and Billy Bones backing Flint and saying it was the missing page. So Vane assaults her for lying, but she waves of Silver and Rackham sees it and stabs the peephole but finds the room empty. So Vane sort of believes her now and he will go to the Wrecks too. Okay, fine.

But then Eleanor tries to get the schedule from Max and Max tries to get her to leave with her and flee from Nassau. But then they get sort of busted by Flint and crew and Eleanor essentially chooses Flint over Max and makes her tell Flint about the deal at the Wrecks. So now Flint and Billy are going to the Wrecks too. Okay.

At the Wrecks, shite goes way sideways thanks to Vane and Silver is on the run and memorizes/burns the page (which is an absolute brilliant move by him by the way), so now they need him alive to help them find the Urca. Then Max escapes the brothel because she feels betrayed by Eleanor, and we don't see her again for a minute. In E3 we even see Mr. Scott and Eleanor talking about how Max left and Eleanor can't believe she left instead of staying there under her care (which is stupid since she just fricked Max over and betrayed her bigly). Okay.

This is where I get confused...

So after the meeting with Eleanor, Vane/crew, and Flint/crew, Vane shows Rackham a chained up Max and she's been beaten and bruised (and raped I presume). And not long after that, we see that Rackham is taking her to a boat in secret to help her leave, where they are found by Vane's crew and she is taken and raped out in the open. That's when Eleanor hears it (because she just fricked Vane) and goes to save her, only for Max to drop the bomb on her and tell her that this wasn't Vane's fault, but rather her fault.

And then Max basically pledges herself to Vane until her debt is paid for making them lose the $5 Gs worth of black pearls.

So what I don't get is how and why she got into the little closet/hut thing and chained up by Vane. Are we to assume that Max left the tavern and went to Vane? Or that Vane somehow intercepted her trying to leave and kidnapped her/tortured her? If so, for what...more information? She doesn't have the page, so would he be torturing her for who has the missing page? And also if he straight up tortured her why would she "pay her debt" to the man who just did that shite to her? Is she that broken of a person? Did she leave the tavern and then was found by the Ranger crew, and THEY were the ones who had her chained up in there? I just don't connect the dots of her leaving to then being captured and chained up in that hut. That doesn't make much sense to me. When the Ranger crew intercepted Rackham and Max, Hamund says something like "Even though Vane brought her here, we will decide when we're done with her," and he is raping her in the next scene. I'm open to some talks about what potentially happened with Max after she left the tavern.

They show Anne Bonny chilling watching the door to Max's room. She sees her leave and we're just left to assume she's the one who tracks and snags her. That could then help explain Anne's guilt after the fact.

I wouldn't have thought it was Anne until the first reply to this. It makes sense because it does look like Anne had a little regret after Max was walking away. I just assumed it was just a random member of the crew but it being Anne adds a little more depth.

I took it as him essentially blaming her for them losing the pearls. Obviously it was Jacks fault but the setup wasn't as they planned and they lost the money because of it.

I feel like a) it's about her repaying a debt because she also takes fault at the pearls being lost (although I'd be out at that spot diving down deep to collect what I could) but even more so b) that it's in spite of Eleanor.

I don't really blame Max or Eleanor for the stance they initially took. It made sense for Eleanor to back Flint and I can't blame a hooker for wanting to get away/having a chance to leave that life behind. But Max should have also understood that Eleanor would be leaving a lot behind. Eleanor is running a pretty big business, that's not something that you can drop and honestly didn't necessarily have that bad of a life.

A prostitute wanting to get away, sure, I get that. Someone that is running a pretty large scale and seemingly profitable merchant business..
