Oh yes, Jack by the end is my favorite in the series! What development.

If you don't mind editing your post or putting SPOLERS at the start of it because the discussion isn't quite to that point yet. We're still just discussing season one, discussion of season 2 EP1-3 will start Wednesday. Glad you're enjoying it

A couple of my thoughts....

EP 7

The opening scene of Jack being tied up in bed and him going soft is one of the funniest scenes of the show so far imo. She gets pissed and storms off and he's there arms and legs tied up and says "don't you dare leave me here like this" Don't know why but that scene cracked me up.

The Vane fight versus the giant (dude has to be a body builder or something in real life) was a proper scrap. Can't really imagine fighting a dude that big but Vane isn't lacking in the confidence area. He's also not lacking in the cock area either. Gotta be prosthetics because that was about 8-10 inches on SOFT.

How does Scott get a hair style that looks like earmuffs? I swear almost every scene Scott is in I'm wondering about his hair style and how that's even possible.

Not a whole lot of notes in addition to whats already been said on episode 7.

EP 8 (S1 finale)

Gates and Flint are just great in every scene together. As already said, I hated to see Gates go. The first time watching I really did not see that coming and it pissed me off. Flint has done some bad stuff already but that is one that really pisses me off. Don't know why Silver helps him here. FLint kind of just has a power over people and it's like he's already got one over Silver.

This episode is really the first time I start to like Vane. He's just been a bit of a douche up until this point but you start to see his smarts a little bit better at this point. Takes over the fort, gets over on Eleanor, and blackballs Jack without having to kill him.

Eleanor in the red dress/outfit is pretty dang fine.

Flint makes moves that I don't even understand. All I know is that he's a hell of a captain and always has a pretty bad arse plan.

Dufresne is such a douche. I already stated it but his rapid advancement really pisses me off. Goes from a coward/nerd/no experience bookkeeper to basically in control of the crew in a matter of days/weeks. Nah.

100 cannon war ship is the ultimate weapon. Dayum that thing will do some damage. Again, I would 100% been off that boat before the cannons went off.

Awesome final scene to the season... we found the Urca!!

No worries at all. The discussion basically stays a week behind the watch schedule.

1000% It's amazing how quickly the crew jumped to follow him.

this is going to come off really stupid... but why is he on the outs with Eleanor and Flint at the beginning? I never really got that exactly spelled out after watching 2x. i heard something about him killing somebody, but never picked it up.

I don't think it's stupid because I don't think it's ever fully explained.

I always took it as a few different things. 1) Vane hated/disliked Flint over Elanor for some reason. Probably because Vane and Eleanor had a history and Eleanor now seems to be siding with Flint instead of him and 2) Flint and Vane have two different views of Nassau. Flint see's Vane as an old school pirate with different plans for Nassau, almost like he's stuck in the past and Flint wants a change to Nassau, more progressive. So just their outlook on things are completely different.

I could be wrong on both of those, but that's kind of how I viewed it.

I might be remembering it wrong or maybe forgot a detail but I’m pretty sure Vane is assisting in the mutiny efforts against Flint at the beginning. He, Rackham and Bonny are behind the murder of Mosiah which was meant to sway votes against Flint and for Singleton. The plan was for Singleton to usurp Flint, fail as captain and for Vane to take control of the Walrus crew. Pretty sure Rackham explains this later.

Dufresne

One thing that always bugged me about Dufresne and other characters are the eyeglasses they wear. The ones below are modern versions of this style from back in the day. Too sleek and polished for authenticity. The temples are wrong, bridge is wrong, arms are wrong.

The same with these. Clearly manufactured with today's technology.

These two that Rackham wears irritate me for a different reason. They are period incorrect. These didn't come into vogue until the 1850s and '60s.

I'd agree with that, but he was already on the outs with them before Vane kills off the deciding vote in the first episode.

Pretty safe to assume since Gates and Flint are already aware of the mutiny plot to begin with that they’re also aware who’s really behind it.

Got ahead of myself this weekend and started season 2.

All comes together so well. When can we start talking S2? Thursday?

S2E1: IX

Great intro to S2 with Captain Ned Low.

It always bugs me how they pronounce "lieutenant." LEFTenant? GTFO.

Flint showing Hamilton that society has just as much bloodlust as the pirates do was important. Society needs a bad guy to rally around destroying.

The scene where Silver and Flint escape is great. Flint telling Silver what to do with each of the Spaniards while they're both standing right there.
"That one has more scars, so he's the better fighter...shoot him."

S2E2: X

Billy! Man, what a way to torture/kill someone. Wrap them in leather and tie them on the beach in the sun, and continuously pour water on it so the sun shrinks the leather until is squeezes so hard your ribs crumble and puncture organs and shite. Yikes.

Silver trying to ingratiate himself back into the crew is awesome. Dudes essentially confessing to fricking goats and whatnot.

Man I forgot how annoying it was that Vane now grunt-whispers all of his lines. I forgot how bad that gets in S2.

Vane is such a great character though. He knows his value to the consortium, and that his name is being used abroad to strike fear into people refusing to do business.

Man, Low beheading Meeks in plain view in the most popular bar in Nassau. What an absolutely unhinged, psychotic lunatic. And man the SFX of Low's sword going through that dude's throat were pretty fricking realistic.

Flint's whole plan to retake his captaincy is great. He played Dufresne like a fiddle, and Dufresne is eventually smart enough to piece it together. But Flint's confidence did all the talking once shite started to go down and Dufresne couldn't handle the heat. I guess it takes more than biting some dude's throat off. And the best part was that it all went sideways on that ship when the captain realized that Dufresne wasn’t Flint and confronted him on it. In that moment Dufresne knew that he didn’t have Flint’s legitimacy and respect.

Man, Rackham is so awesome and hilarious. And it's funny how he really does care about Anne. "All I've ever wanted is for you to be happy. Please come back to bed once you're finished."

S2E3: XI

Love the scene where Low visits Vane in the fort and offers his tribute as a sign of respect and for Vane to stay out of his way. And even more awesome is that Low saw right through Vane and was no longer worried about him because he's basically controlled by his love for Eleanor.

But man, Vane is such a badass character though. "Mr. Holmes doesn't work here anymore."

Low is such an over-the-top caricature type of character. But it was cool having someone like him around. I wish he could've hung around longer, but I guess he didn't have he head for it.

"My trouble isn't that she knows how to play the thing between your legs better than I, but the one between your ears." Rackham spouting off gems left and right.

Oh look, Eleanor fricks Vane yet again. Proving that she makes some of the worst decisions in Nassau. I realize that she cares for him and is also using that to play him a bit at times, but it's still just bad business. I guess pussy really is undefeated though.

"Congrats, Jack. Now you know what it's like to rise from the grave." Love that Rackham is now back in good graces and can form his crew. And he finally gets his threesome. Go get em, tiger.

The whole Abigail Ashe thing is strange. So she's the daughter of a Carolina governor, and he has a reward of $250,000. But isn't the Urca gold worth like $5 million? If so, it seems odd that Vane is trying to play it against the gold.

And good on Flint and Hornigold for seeing through her bullshite and preparing to take back the fort themselves. And we leave E3 on the precipice of shite seriously about to go down. Pumped about the next three this week.
