That's exactly what it sounds like. He should have taken a slower approach to begin with. I don't appreciate he made this his thing at a time when LSU had enough bad press. He needs to get all his facts straight next time.

Nah, it’s his way of admitting he miscalculated how a political attack against LSU would go over in this state.
Saying he “fell for some stupid shite on twitter” implies that he didn’t know the reality of the situation, which is hard to believe considering he doubled down days later on Fox News and then tripled down in his letter to LSU. By then he would have known, even if he didn’t know when he first tweeted about it. He probably just got more backlash than he expected.
