I sat next to Randy White in first class flying out of Dallas.
I sat next to a guy in first class flying out of Los Angeles who had his hoodie pulled tight around his face and he kept his head down so no one would recognize him. After the flight got off of the ground he opened up the hoodie a little then finally pulled it down. The flight attendant knew who he was and kept talking about music with him. She called him Mr Combs and I had no idea who that was. I told my wife when I got home that this guy had a tattoo on his left side of his neck and the flight attendant called him Mr Combs. Now he is all over the news.
I met Lou Holtz in the Dallas airport.
I met Ricky Williams in the Atlanta airport the morning after he won the Doak Walker award as we where both flying to Austin. We had a great conversation about his upcoming decision to turn pro or stay at UT with the new coach Mack Brown. He was unsure if Brown was committed to the run game because of his success with a pass first offense. I told him Coach Brown coached at LSU and his two running backs broke the Pony Express rushing record. I asked why he was flying so early in the morning right after the awards show last night and his answer was; that as a elementary student teacher he gets invited to some of the kids birthday parties. He had to be back for one of his students birthday party that afternoon because his mom told him if you go to one then you have to go to all. He struck me as person with a great heart and I was extremely excited when the Saints drafted him. I wasn't sure he was worth all the picks the Saints gave up for him, but what do I know about building a pro football team.
I met Chan Gailey flying out of Dallas. The Dallas Cowboys coaching staff and Jerry Jones had to fly commercial due to an issue with their plane. Jerry, some top brass (I assume) and a few Coaches road in first class while Chan sat next to me in the back of coach. The flight attendant went up to Chan before the flight took off and told him they found a passenger who is willing to trade seats. Chan said no thanks then mumbled I rather sit back here and relax. We all laughed at that statement. I couldn't help but notice when he was fired that that flight was just a few months earlier.
