And how much for airfare to Hawaii for a family of 3 or 4? That’s another couple thousand easily.

Oh sure, it costs most to get there but you get more when you're there too. It's not about saving money it's about what I get for my money.
I do not see the return for the cost of almost all Gulf Coast Condos.
Airfare for three ran me about $1500 for three people from NOLA - Oahu so I am $4500 in for airfare and accommodations. Rented a car for $450 so that brings me to around $5000 for ten days.
Can I do Destin, Miramar, 30A, Navarre, etc cheaper than that....sure.
