Harold Perkins confirmed a couple of popular theories

1) as many of us have said, regardless of whether Matt House did a competent job or not, the main difference between Perkins being more of a disruptor as a FR compared to his SO season was the opponent knew who he was. He said that in the video here on main page. You just can't assume that just because something worked 1 year it will work the next. Lining him up on the LOS and blitzing him a lot was countered his SO season by the opposing OC and OL coaches....hence House quit doing that.
2) without indicting House, he pretty much indicted House. He said that last year he wasn't having the fun he should have been having mainly because the communication between coach and players wasn't the best. In addition, he said that Blake Baker is a more hands on coach by showing the problem by walking through it instead of just verbally instructing what should be done.
I still think execution was a lot of the problem on defense but if the coach has lost the players as pretty obviously House did due to personality, coaching style, whatever, House could have been a genius coach and it didn't matter because he was not the best teacher.

I know coaches move around a lot, but since 2001 House has had 13 jobs (not including Jacksonville which started in '24) and the longest tenure was his three years with the Chiefs from '19-'21.
5/13 jobs he made it only one year.
That seems excessive to me...

All you needed to see was the video after the bowl game between the players and MH to realize there was no respect towards the coach.

We already know House schemed him poorly. Also even if coaches could neutralize him they'd have to do so at a cost which would still benefit the overall defense.

Anyone with any type of football knowledge or a functional brain said this already
It was the madden DCs like ipodking who thought otherwise

That is the main reason when you watch the opener vs usc yall will see a major difference in this lsu defense...communication

That video of last game showed the lack of respect House had from the players.
However, little disappointed in Kelly waiting so long to make changes. I get the feeling several Defensive line players would have stuck around for another year if they knew a new coaching staff was coming in. Several recruits would have been all over this new coaching staff.
It was clear players had no respect for House and therefore did not trust his calls.

That’s the kind of stuff you read in the offseason and start feeling like all our problems are over just like that…boom, instant dominance.

Perkins needs to be on the edge wrecking shite

It’s not really that simple. Teams knew who he was when he was the talk of CFB as a freshman. They definitely were aware of him in their game plan, but there’s not a whole lot you can do against someone that disruptive of a pass rusher. The spy role is also something that you can’t really game plan against.
That can pass as a good excuse if they actually tried to use him in that role to begin his sophomore year. They didn’t even try to rush him against FSU. Hard to say it won’t work when you don’t even attempt it.
One thing you can tell, it wasn’t “fun” for him. He didn’t give much effort and you did not see the explosiveness on constant display. That is all due to him not caring at that point. He was going through the motions.

You can instruct verbally all day long and some guys won't be able to grasp your point. People learn through different methods. House should've adjusted to a more hands-on approach to help the guys that needed it...or SONEONE on tge defensive side should have done so. That's probably where he lost the players: the gap between being taught and not understanding. It's the teacher/coach that has to figure out how to bridge that gap.

Be happy he's still on the team especially in the NIL era with massive tampering everywhere. Speaks more to Perkins for him to tough it out with a new DC than just up and leaving like many other players would do for a higher pay day. It shows you where his head is. Much respect to Perkins. You know he was being heavily tampered too. This is money year for him and he will show it.

Hence why our entire defense was on their heels and looked slow and indecisive. I think we're going to see a massive upgrade.
Matt House defense cost us a legitimate shot at a national title with that insane offense.

Not gonna lie, after hearing of Perkins stories in HS and how he would be a problem behaviorally, he really hasn't been one at all.

Feel like knowing how to teach players is a big part of the whole "coaching responsibilities"
House probably has a smart football mind, which is why he's bounced around in the pros. But that doesn't mean shite if you can't relate to players and find a way to make them learn.
House sucked as coach and seemed to be an even worse person.
Just so happy he's gone.

House isn’t a dumbass. He knows football and he knows X’s and O’s you don’t get to where he’s been without it. But it takes more than that to be a good college coach. It’s a tough job. You’re teaching a lot of these guys from basically scratch.
It didn’t help that he was apparently an a-hole.

they knew who he was after only a few games his FR season...

Good for him to stay put. Most would have transferred out

He doesn’t need to throw House under the bus, we all know he was incompetent. The best example was refusing to spy Milroe in Tuscaloosa.
