Already seeing the arguments that UConn still can’t be a blueblood

Because of the multiple seasons with no tournament appearances and bottom half league finishes
Is it time to throw these takes in the shitter?
They have the 3rd most national championships of any program

A summation of how their fans feel about it from one of the UConn message boards:
quote:
Blue Blood is about royalty. We aren't royalty. This is America. We're the ones who buy their estates when they're broke. Let them wear tweed and be sanctimonious about antiquated titles. We'll just keep winning.

6 titles in only 7 Final Four appearances is insane.
UNC also has 6 titles but 21 F4s. Duke has 5 and 17. Kansas has 4 and 16.
Michigan is the anti-UConn with a 1-6 record in title games.

They played basketball since 1901 and won their first championship in 1999.
They were mostly absent for the entire 20th century. How is that a blueblood?

The whole Blue Blood argument is so stupid.
UConn has 6 titles since 1999.
In that time frame Duke and UNC each have 3, Kansas 2, UK 1, while UCLA and Indiana have none.
Who cares about subpar seasons in between when you have 6 titles in 25 years!

UConn has become a blue blood with these back to back titles. Heck they have more than Duke and Kansas and they are not done yet. More titles on they way for them.

A good comparison is LSU baseball. Maybe they arrived late but most certainly a blue blood.

6 titles in 25 years makes them a new money blueblood for me. As good a job for new young coaches as UK, UNC, Duke, UCLA, or KU.

The UNC, UK and Duke fans are jealous of UConn’s 6-0 record. Seems like those fans are making stuff up at this point.

UCONN: 6 championships in the past 25 years
UK: 1

Whats crazy about this is that by the late 80's, early 90's Duke was considered a blue blood...but they were shite until the 60's. So 20 years of success makes them one, but not 20 years of success for UConn.
Uconn is absolutely a blue blood

If Duke and North Carolina are considered blue blood, then UCONN has to be because they have accomplished more than them.

Why even engage in such a meaningless thing? It's just semantics. It's a made up word/phrase (in fairness, they all are, I suppose) with an arbitrary criteria that only fans of teams that were once considered one and are now slipping out of that status should care about it even in the slightest. I've seen LSU win 3 NCs, play for another, and have 2 Heisman Trophy winners in the past 21 football seasons. Could not give any less of a frick if Oklahoma or Nebraska fans consider us a "blue blood" or not.
Nor should UCONN fans give a frick what UCLA fans think about any kind of abstract club they do or do not belong in. Or Kentucky. Or Indiana. I doubt any UCONN would trade histories with them. The only ones they'd even entertain are Duke and UNC, and I doubt they'd trade with either of them at 11:05 am local this morning.

Honestly I wouldnt give a crap if I were Uconn. Just like I dont care about it with LSU. If people want to pump their chest about 50 y/o championships (looking at you ND) when we're winning and say we're "not a bluebood" then go for it bud. Wont change the fact we're winning.

We would have to define what makes a blueblood in any sport. The traditional definition of blueblood is sort of like the definition of old money vs new money. If someone is new money, they will never be old money until all the old money ceases to exist. As long as the traditional bluebloods in college sports linger it is difficult to displace them even if they are not as good anymore. We need a new term.

I’d Gonzaga a blue blood???? They make the the tourney every year… while UConn doesn’t make it every year.
