We will be on the Boston area the first week of June. We will be staying at Salisbury Beach. We have 3 or 4 days open for day excursions.

Are there any “can’t miss” things to check out approximately a hour or two from Salisbury?

I would go to Rockport Mass, eat at Lobster Pool

You can also go north of where you are into Maine coastal area and Portland Maine would be doable

Woodstock Vermont was a nice little day trip if you wanted to go up into that area, it's probably about 2 hours from that location if you wanted to see something different then the coastal areas

Looks like that's on the north side of Boston, so I would say Portland ME for a day trip, as that's only about an hour away.

We were in Boston last October and took a day trip down to Newport RI. Very nice area and we toured several of the large summer mansions for the uber wealthy back in the gilded age. The Breakers (Vanderbilt mansion) was very cool.

If you've never been, catch a Red Sox game at Fenway. Also the tour of Fenway is really cool.

Newport Rhode Island would be a little further away since you are staying outside of Boston and you would need to plan it around Boston traffic

Yeah Newport is going to be more than 2 hours with having to go through Boston.

If you’re looking for small New England coastal towns, Gloucester is good and Newburyport is better.

Kennebunkport is a good option as well.
