Since hybrid batteries are smaller, they are cheaper.

Yeah. Storage is sold by kWh. There’s some varied packaging costs but at its core it’s just a commodity that sells at its storage rate. The big thing is that hybrids can be all over the map on battery size. This one, like many others, just has a 1.5-2kWh battery. Which isn’t much. But others come with 10-20kWh. Those are typically the PHEVs that can run around town like an EV but have great range too.

It's simple math to figure out if you'd benefit from a hybrid, unless you just want one.

The regular one gets 29/37 and the hybrid 46/41. So average of 33 mpg vs 43.5. If you drive 10k miles per year, that's going to save you $222/yr with gas at $3/gallon. If the hybrid is 3k more expensive, it will take more than 13 years before you are in the black.

I have a 2023 Accord Hybrid sport L.

Drives incredibly comfortably and quietly, more roomy than my wife’s CX-5, 42 mpg combined, quick, looks pretty good.

Big fan so far.

Also depends on the type of driving you do. ICE does its best, and hybrids their worst, at highway speeds. Hybrids are still significantly better, but it's closer. But hybrids blow ICE away with city driving. I'll routinely hover around 50mpg running errands in the city, while my previous accord would probably be sitting around 25mpg.

But that's purely dollars and cents. That wasn't super important to me, as even if I didn't save any money, longer range between fill up, faster speeds off the line, quieter running, etc, etc, just make the driving experience more pleasant for me.

Yeah I get it, and I wouldn't fault anyone for getting one. I just think you have to drive a ton of miles for it to really save money for most. In my experience, the hybrid we looked at was about 4k more expensive.

The hybrids don't have a spare, that is a big issue for me

Is the spare space taken up with batteries?

Correct

I can't speak for all hybrids, particularly plug ins with larger batteries, but that's not at all correct for my car. I just measured the wheel well in the trunk and it could fit any tire with a diameter less than 28" and a depth of less than 8", which would easily fit the tires on my Touring with room to spare.

ETA: My wheel well is simply filled with a fitted foam insert with molded spaces for tools, jacks, etc. But if I were willing to pull that out, I could absolutely have a full sized spare in my hybrid.

Honestly like someone else mentioned the regular accord gets damn near 40. I’m not sure if it’s worth it to get the hybrid when your maintenance long term will most likely cost a bit more and you pay a good bit more at sale.

We have had 1 for a year now. Nice car. She gets i think 40+mpg. The "singing" sound it makes when just the electric motor is working is strange and funny at the same time. I think it for safety because you wouldnt hear the car otherwise. Design is nice. Cant really say anything about maintence because we havent had any issues. Like someone else said it doesnt have a spare tire, just a kit.

Does it actually, real world? My last non hybrid Accord was a... 2014? and I assume mileage has gotten better, but I was probably getting real world 25/30. My hybrid Touring, which is a bit heavier, averages 45mpg real world over the course of a tank of gas, mixed city/highway. The only numbers I'm finding for non hybrid Accords are 29/37, which I imagine is closer to 26/34 real world, though I suppose I could be wrong.

It confuses the frick out of people

I would obviously prefer that it not make any noise at all, but it's much better than normal engine noise, and I assume the "piped" noise is federally mandated at a particular decibels level.

If I'm remembering correctly, instead of using a PSI gauge, it uses the onboard computer to do some calculation regarding diameter and tire speed and whatever to calculate whether it's low. I assume it's cheaper, breaks less often, or both. But who the frick knows. I know the sensors in my wife's Lexus have been fricky as all hell, so I suppose there might be some merit to it.

Ironically, yes, on my fricking ICE Accord. The mid teens Accords were apparently known for failing starters

Gallons of battery power does not equate to gallons of gasoline.
