the prelims are rocking and have you feeling it I can imagine that entices people that don’t illegally stream it to purchase the card

You may be right. I just feel like anyone watching prelims falls into two groups:

1) buying main card anyway
2) streaming

I can’t see randoms caring enough to watch prelims and then say “nah I’m good”

Every fight was the best fight there ever was last night because that’s what everyone was told before hand. So yea, best womens mma fight in the history of womens mma.

Throwing bombs and going all out in the last 10-15 seconds of a fight isn’t some new thing that happened for the first time last night. If Max didn’t somehow pull out that knockout with a second left, nobody would be nutting themselves over it.

But he did… that’s an insane finish that’ll be talked about for years to come.

You do realize how many dozens and scores of fights over the years are iconic specifically because of the finish, right?

Of course. This one is just making everyone cream themselves because of “the point” and the 10s flurry, neither of which is a new thing.

you serious? A fight that swung in the 2nd round the opposite direction, and then swung back to the champ in the 4th? That was a phenomenal fight that after 4 rounds was up for grabs.

He's referring to the fact that Yan got slept in the first round and was saved by the bell/ref.

Gathje and Holloway was a violent, bloody war from round one, leading to the crescendo in the final seconds of round five. The KO has to be viewed in context. It wasn't one flurry here, one flurry there. The meet-up at the center of the ring was the culmination of several rounds (as well as an electric sum fight card). Holloway was running away with the fight. The fact that he willingly put himself in danger with one of the most dangerous men in MMA for the benefit of fight fans, and then paid it off, is what people are responding so strongly to.

I said it was a great fight. No more or no less memorable than many other great fights.

But last night everyone was so euphoric about “THE POINT!!!” and the last seconds flurry that you’d think it was the first time we’ve seen something like that ever.

You need a take a break moment. Never seen what I guess is a grown arse man cry so much over nothing. I am so sorry people enjoyed the fights. So we don’t hurt your feelings next time we will all just shite on the fights to seem edgy and cool.

I mean that's cool and all, but ol' girl was unconscious with one or two seconds left. None of that is changed by how fast she recovered after she woke up.

Lol. I’m crying?

People were saying this was an underwhelming card for a while. Then someone here started barking about “those posters must have disappeared”

You can still enjoy the fights. Are there a ton of ufc events that you don’t enjoy? I can’t really remember many that I didn’t. But it simply wasn’t an all-time “best we will ever see” card like we were told it was going to be. It’s ok to say that and still have had a really great night of fight watching.

This is where I stand. Dana put together a card that delivered, but there wasn't the blockbuster matchups from top to bottom that we saw at 100 and 200. I almost feel like it's a testament to where the sport is today. I feel like it's better than it's ever been, but it just doesn't have the mainstream headliner names in the US like it did in the 2000s and early 2010s.

I think they knew this and went in on the “former champion” wording for marketing.
