having the preview screen show things that then fail

Back in the day, did you ever create a webpage or send an editable document to someone, and once they opened it on their computer it looked like arse because they didn't have the same fonts installed as you?

When you previewed that first on your computer it looked really good right?

Emojis and emoticons are like fonts. When you paste an emoji from the website you've visited, it has already sideloaded the style sheet for that character into your browser so that it displays properly.

When it's served back to you from TD, that emoji no longer exists, because that character coding may already be reserved by something else on TD, or it may be deleted because it could corrupt whatever code this site is trying to serve your browser.

Try writing Tim Apple and asking him why you can't use WhatsApp emojis in iMessage (even though they might look fine pasted in), right up until you hit send and it turns into a bunch of random Chinese characters or reboots your phone.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the answer is going to be no. Just a hunch.
