I got my first shot Feb 1st (2.5mg). I was on 5mg for the next eight shots (was supposed to go to 7.5mg after four shots of 5mg, but mix up on prescription kept me on 5mg another four weeks). I took my first 7.5mg last night.
My results:
-Down from 265lbs to 227lbs (first 25lbs fell off in 5 weeks)
-Blood pressure down from 150/90 to 120/75
-Stopped snoring (wife loves it) and sleeping better
-Blood sugar sub-100, even without fasting the night before
-Size 42 waist to a 36 waist

I did radically change my diet (you have to on this medication). I’m probably eating 1500 calories a day (never really added them up). Another big thing is I cut out soft drinks. Granted, all I use to drink was Diet Dr Pepper, but was drinking way too much. Carbonated drinks make me feel like shite now (full). I’m drinking about 100 fl oz of water a day now, nothing else.

I cannot wait to see my A1C in 4 weeks. My last A1C was 6.4 in January.

The only side effect I’ve had was a huge headache every time I went up on dose, and mild headache after each dose.

I did start working out again, but nothing major, mostly 30-mins on elliptical and just some light weights, 2-3x a week.

MrsAntiqueTiger has been on since October, paying out of pocket ($$$$). She’s down a lot of weight, won’t say starting weight, but she’s closing in on 140 lbs (her target weight).

Here’s an example of what we eat now. Last week we went to Lit Pizza. We split one pizza and did no finish it (ate 2 slices each). Tonight she wanted fajitas. We got a fajita for one person from Las Palmas. We each ate one fajita wrap. The box comes with four. We couldn’t even eat the beans and rice.

I eat about five-six times a day now, basically all snacks. Oats and boiled egg for breakfast, a fruit around 9am, nuts, cheese, & fruit for lunch, yogurt for snack, and a light dinner.

It has changed my life. Question is, what happens when I get off of it? I am still going to the 10mg dose next month, then re-visiting my doctor.
My target weight is sub-200, I’m 6’ tall.

Same. It’s completely changed my life. As for getting off… don’t rush it. Get your diet, workout routine, and lifestyle completely adjusted and in concrete. After that, you can slowly begin to wean down if you choose. Or stay on it indefinitely if you choose. There no downside to this if done properly. My one piece of advice is to start lifting now. I waited almost 6 months before lifting and definitely lost muscle mass. I’m lifting heavy 5-6x a week now and catching up, but if I could turn back time, I would’ve started way sooner.

Anyways, keep it up. It’s an amazing drug.

Are you diabetic? You mentioned it was 6.4 last time it was checked, but are you diabetic? 6.5 is the cutoff so just curious.

Sounds like you’ve made some strides and hope you can keep it off!

Have you experienced a lot of muscle loss?

My brother is fairly large and I've recommended he try Mounjaro or Ozempic and his rebuttal is he doesn't want to lose his muscle mass, only fat.

I think he's scared of not eating whatever he wants but his hesitation may be valid.

ETA: Just a gee whiz question, at what stage of obesity are doctors prescribing this stuff? 20 pounds? 50? 100?

So I’m part owner in a compounding pharmacy that does mainly Semaglutide (Ozempic) and Tirzepatide (Monjauro). Once you’re off you need to either continue a healthy diet and workout plan or just stay on the meds because you will gain some back. It sucks, but it is what it is

You could have done all this with diet and exercise. It would have required some effort though. Long term I don’t think this will end well for a lot of folks (not everyone) but there are disturbing trends and reports from people using this for weight loss.

175 lbs and 199 lbs are both "sub-200". What is your actual goal?

How many times have you tried other things? Fad diets, move more and eat less, etc? You are now taking medicine that treats your disease. Why do you believe you should stop taking the medication? Would you stop taking a beta blocker because it was working and heart disease had been held in check? Why would you stop taking your obesity medicine because it is working?

Some people are capable of overcoming the disease without medication. Most are not. You should discuss this with a medical professional with expertise in obesity medicine before considering a discontinuation of a medicine that is improving your quality of life and fending off early death or subsequent disease. Ideally look for DABOM behind the MD. ASMBS as well, or both if you want the most medically informed.

Congrats on getting healthier. Very glad you found the treatment needed for your disease. Like most other diseases, the symptom prevalence will return once treatment is discontinued.

A doctor I know said a “maintenance shot” once a month to maintain the weight loss is working for his patients (those who have reached their goal weight).

Holy shite, this thread has grown since I looked at it. (I’m not reading 5 pages of fighting).

Update on me:

I’m closing in on 45 lbs lost (7 lbs since starting this thread).

I did start a daily regiment of a protein shake, which I believe slowed my weight loss some (in a good way).

I’m still in the gym three times a week, mostly cardio and some light weights.

I will have labs done in less than two weeks. I’m excited to see the results.

Most pharmacies here sell it for over a thousand per month. Where is this $250 per month?

Mate you should switch to a ketogenic diet now and get yourself weaned off of sugar.

Sparkling water is fun to drink you should get that instead of plain water

****Update****

Got my labs back this morning!!!!!!

This is a three month result

A1C 5.6 (down from 6.8)
Blood glucose 93 (down from 163)
BP 120/75 (down from 155/90)

I’m down to about 217 lbs, from 265. This is the lightest I’ve weighed in 28 years.

Nothing in high levels. A few low levels. Actually my over all cholesterol is too low at 93 (down from 180) (LDL is good)

Saw my primary today. He was damn near in shock at my results.

My bp was 104/65
All my labs were normal.

He took me off Metformin!!!
He cut my Crestor and BP meds in half, and said will take me off when I reach my target weight (which is 200 lbs)

And now the TD suicide

The LSU shirt is a 3x, the peach shirt is a 1x.
The jeans are size 44. The shorts are 36

I’m down 26 lbs in 11 weeks. The worst of my gastro has subsided, it’s helping a lot with my esophageal stricture and reflux and my clothes are all super loose. The negatives are rather severe nausea there for a few weeks, significant lethargy and a weird detached feeling. No depression, just dulled around the edges. Probably because I am really struggling to eat enough. The savings in food costs have outpaced the medication costs. Also , I have stayed at the second lowest dose since week four- taking the smallest dose that I still get results with on my physicians recommendation. I’m a non diabetic , I’m taking to help with severe esophageal issue and weight loss is a bonus. I want to lose about 25 more.

I started Wegovy 3 weeks ago today. I'm down 8.5 lbs as of this morning. I take the shot before going to bed on Wednesday night, and by mid day Thursday to about Monday evening I have little to no desire to eat. I do eat a little because I know I need to and what I am eating is small servings high in protein. By Tuesday evenings and during the day Wednesday I do feel hungry at times, but not anything like the cravings I had before starting this and all of it is still small portions. So I'd say the stuff works.
Now for why I am taking it... well my health was out of control and I just couldn't get it together on my own. (I know that sounds lazy and pathetic) I used to control it by running, but my knee is trashed and as the pounds kept adding up, my knee only got worse. With the knee issue I doubt I will ever get to run another marathon, but I hope getting things started with this medication I could maybe return to running 3-5 miles a day.
I started at 268.5 lbs and would be happy to get back to 225-230 range. I am 6'-5" and when I was running 35-40 miles a week I was around 210-215. The long term goal is using this to kick start the weight loss and gain control of my eating habits again. A extra bonus would be to run a few 5k's in the fall again as well.
I enjoyed reading this thread and your experience.

I recently was told by my doctor to get on one of these GLP1 medications and was doing some research on it, any thoughts on the point of view of this doctor?

I am supposed to be on it but my pharmacy put me back on 2.5. I am diabetic, lost 70 lbs, my A1C dropped from 11.5 to 6.8.
