The ag exemption should go away just like all exemptions should go away. Charge a low tax for everyone.
Not land, homes. They have a ton of farmland. Cows are the number 1 export in the state.

How about we let the government take all of your property, redistribute your wealth, and eliminate all of your tax breaks?
All in favor, say Aye.

In reality, that's not a problem.
It is when they hold it for a profit while other people suffer financially.

You want your homes to cost more, remove AE for the pine that I grow and insure against loss.
Go ahead, I'll charge more.

Yea, frick all that. I build for a living and I can tell you, i much rather see farmland than some bullshite DR Horton development.
In my area the large landowners are farmers as well and the are slowly selling out. It’s a Dr Horton wasteland now .

Abolishing the Ag exemption in Texas would crush the value of land.

Not if everyone else all of the sudden has to sell what they have. The cost will go way down.

No. If you don’t mind living away from the coast.

Thats because they are the only developers who can afford to pay for the overpriced land.

Back to my point. How is this not a subsidy for them?

Sure thing champ.

Either get rid of it or extend it to everyone who owns undeveloped land, regardless of zoning.

Democrats do not understand this is how it really works.

In major populated states such as Florida, there is a shortage of housing. The majority of the state land is owned and maintained by farmers who through the agricultural tax exemption horde large swaths of land and refuse to sell.

The OP is one of those who thinks we don't need farmers or agriculture because everyone just goes to the grocery store for stuff like that.

Not being taxed is not a special tax treatment. It's the default.

Cool. This thread is about a tax exemption, which is special treatment, aka market interference aka Leftism.
