Dead weight loss. Politicians know this is a horrible idea, but the people now are functional idiots and so they lap it up and vote for whomever brought the policy about.

You realize if California politicians really cared, they'd simply lower taxes. Instead they put it on business's to make up for their mistakes, which will result in less minimum wage workers being employed.

At least they included the obvious part no one wants to talk about
I wonder how long it will take In n Out to move their base out of CA. They can't afford to pass on those raised costs to their locations outside the state.

I've seen videos of CFA's drive-thru setup that automates from kitchen to window. New McD have one register but 3-4 kiosks. Steak n Shake has gone from a place of 10-15 workers down to 2-4 with all orders placed at a kiosk when you walk in. I'm surprised Taco Hell hasn't made the move. There is A TON of excess labor cost that can be cut.

Importing millions of lowly educated workers while raising the min wage sure seems like a recipe for rampant unemployment, massive welfare and dysfunction to me.

They have. The one near me is mostly kiosks and 1 register.

Why $20? Who can live on that in CA?

Make it at least $50

I have a friend who lives in a 3 bedroom and pays $5600 a month. He’s not exactly in West Hollywood either. He has a kid and he takes care of his expenses, wife’s money goes into savings. His expenses this month were $13000.

I don’t like the beach that much. The ones in gulf shores are 10x better and cleaner anyway.

Who didn’t see this coming? A business passes on increased costs to the consumer?! It’s almost like politicians and our resident economist don’t understand basic business concepts

They are coming for alot of jobs outside of that sector bud. Maybe yours and mine.

It's not a horrible idea for the vast majority of Americans who are idiots and or can't figure out math and economics.
No wonder why Democrats are trying to remove real education from schools
They want a dumb American voting block, not to mention they want to push social agendas while they're at it.

Why not make the minimum wage a billion dollars an hour? Then everyone can be rich!!!

The irony of all of this is the group pushing for this talking about how the boomers don’t get it are going to start seeing more and more boomers in the drive through window.

If you run a fast food outfit and have to pay this amount…who are you going to hire? Some Gen Z with no work experience that wants every other day off for personal health or some 63 year old that shows up at 5am who needs the money and wants to work?

My buddy and his wife have a household income easily >200k. One toddler, modest house, modest spending, no fancy vehicles, etc.

Absolutely loved the outdoor opportunities in CA but had to move out of the valley two years ago because they didn't have any money left to save after expenses.

Good luck with that $20/hour. Only thing it will help is to increase inflation.

I understand the negatives. Just curious if any businesses have implemented the $20 while not cutting employees, hours, or raising prices?

Sorry, but I shouldn’t have to pay more for a #4 because your shitty arse life decisions landed you working in fast food at 40.
