I intentionally don't get protection dogs neutered because I want as much testosterone in those veins as I can get. I don't mind if I get challenged or bit every now and then. I look at like if he'll do that with me, what will he do to a stranger? Exactly what I want/need him to do. I'd rather train/corral that than neuter it.

However, the main point I'm keyed in on, is the "every now and then."
Okay, one time bite we can work with him, but getting regularly bit more than 1 time, if that's what you mean, is unacceptable. Under no circumstances will my dog bite me more than once and it's hunky-dory, ho-hum. Either he's a problem, or I'm doing something really dumb to illicit that response, or both.
A dog prone to biting its owner, especially without major provocation, should be bred out of every gene pool of every breed.
I actually prefer males for bird dogs because of their drive and independence. Once broken, which is not a one-and-done occurrence, they will part the waters when they hit it, my male upland bird dogs are hard headed sum bitches, but they won't quit. My house dog, I much prefer a female.
