He was in the hole for close to 100K in back child support and Bobby Guidroz wanted him gone after he was using his position as a St Landry Deputy to cash in on the whole Cajun John Wayne schtik dressed in full St Landry garb.

I never could understand how the people in Acadiana could elect such a clown. I get after Landry who had once been a Congressman from there, but Landry at least has something of a brain in his head . Charles Boustany was a quality rep but he ultimately wanted out.

Kind of tells you the state of politics overall when people chose him over others that were more competent and at least not a quasi thug with a badge who has anger issues. He's the Republican version of SheJack without the Yale undergrad and UVA law degree.

Well…he was in the runoff vs Scott Snake Angelle, after Team Jindal/Angelle quietly helped JBE defeat Vitter. Just a complete shite runoff.

My hope was that Higgins would win, then someone conservative, intelligent and competent would run the next go round and replace him. You KNEW Snake Angelle would be a lifer if he ever got into Congress.

I pulled for Ellison in that primary, but we were left with Higgins vs Angelle.

Josh Guillory ran against Higgins in the 2018 Primary, and was cast as some big ole liberal by the Lafayette/Acadiana tea party/MAGA crowd, but then a bunch of those same people fell in love with him a year later in the Parish President race. Weird.

That Holden Hoggatt guy they found to run against Higgins as a Republican in 2022 was a complete joke.
