Funny Waffle House story. We were at Salty Mikes yesterday and they didn’t have TouchTunes but the Waffle House across the river did. So I played Careless Whisper for whoever was there at the time.

Don't care as long as they don't mess with my All Star, scattered smothered eggs over easy.

You do realize full time security means the cost of an All-Star is going to increase again?

If they "went on strike" at the ones around me I don't think you'd tell much difference. They haven't been able to field a full team at any of them since Covid.

I have one that I used to go to a couple times a month. I've known the main cook for years. The last time I was in there he got our drinks, took our order, cooked it, topped our coffee off, and bussed the table. I tipped him well. Now, I walk in, check to see who is cooking, and if it isn't him I leave. It has gotten that bad.

I went looking and found that typical union dues range from 1-4.5% of wages paid, but one thing that kept popping up was that dues are roughly 2 hours of wages.

According to glass door this says server wages range from $20-$33/hr in LA with a median of $25. That means an average of $50/month if it’s 2 hours of wages.

Glass door Waffle House wages

$50/$3 means union dues would cost you the same as the meal deductions for nearly 17 shifts.

Now, if the workers unionize, I bet the meals for $3 goes away and the entire retail price of the meal will be deducted from the paycheck.

So if the workers unionize. They will still pay the equivalent of 85% of the meal deduction while getting no meals, and then on top have to pay for full meals.

I understand they may get more money per hr, but I doubt they come out ahead finically, at least initially.

You’re an idiot and need to stay in Colorado. The only places worth a shite in your state are the tourist destinations.

I get the $3 per shift thing is bullshite, and security is probably needed at a lot fot he locations, but I don't know if I'm on board with $25/hour base rate. If that's the base hourly rate, then are we doing away with tipping? I'm willing to consider that trade.

If it allows them 1 free meal per shift why? It would be hard pressed to get that many calories for $3 outside of rice and beans with no seasoning.

If the establishment can pay that and make a profit while keeping prices stable, great. If that causes the prices to Jack up, people will stop going.

Honest question, why does the amount someone makes dictate whether you tip or not?
