I think this is a good idea for those parents who have kids. I know as far as being a parent keep the gun locked up. But mistakes are made or feeling like “my kid knows not to play/touch the gun” mentality, but things happen and kids being kids lives are lost to protocols not being followed.

I grew up in a house where the guns were not locked up. I knew if I touched one, I would be severely disciplined. Millions of kids grew up this way for decades. Parents don't want to be parents anymore. They want their kids to like them or they just don't want the responsibility.

People should be able to buy these weapons if they want, but democrats have already tried to force this on everyone. Changing the culture is more effective than changing the law.

BIG KICKER - That gun control bill Biden got passed a couple of years ago has a requirement about all firearms makers utilizing this tech eventually (a lot like the EV thing for car makers) but it didn't kick in until a DOMESTICALLY PRODUCED one was available. Now that these assclowns have made one, everyone else is going to be required to dump money into it. It was a pretty smart move on the Biden admin to frame the law that way.

I thought it went father back than 2016 and I thought the issue was different in that it had to be for sale in the US. I remember seeing something maybe 8-10 years ago where a IRCC NJ gun store was going to carry one and they got a huge amount of heat from other gun retailers across the country and relented and they never went for sale domestically and didn't trigger the law.

I haven't seen anyone mention one of the other issues. Even if there is never an attempt to force all handguns to have it from the government it potentially produces a situation where it could be effectively forced on manufacturers but the civil courts. Gun manufacturers have always been one landmark civil case away from a paradigm shift in the industry. Smart guns produce one more avenue to attack them in a civil suit on inherently dangerous grounds. Table saws sold in the US are required now to have modular blade guards and riving knives, although it is now codified the push started with Osario v One World Technologies about 18 years ago. While I can't say this will be an issue it is possible and potentially could make it financially unfeasible to sell a handgun without the technology though it would take quite a few years to get there.

It’s surprising to me how even some pro-gun websites and publications are promoting smart guns as a positive development that will aid in gun safety. Yeah, but at what price?

For the average gun owner, this makes no sense.

However, if teachers are going to be asked to have a gun on campus, then in addition to a yearly psych evaluation, I have no issue with biometric guns.

Again, that’s only IF (select) teachers are asked to carry.

The weapon in that gif is not 30 caliber.

30 caliber is 7.82mm, which is larger than an M240 round.

Immediate thought.

Now they just need to find a way to imprint your DNA on every round fired.

SDeLeonTiger thinks it's a good counterpoint to the criticism of the bump stock ban.

Hoe many rounds can be fired out of the chamber of a bump stock?
