Generally when you are pursuing someone and they are retreating, that makes you the aggressor, even if they throw a defense punch to ward you off.

I got jumped at Dublin’s in 03 (the night of the LSU football game against La Tech) merely because I was talking to some frat boy’s girlfriend. It was me and a buddy against about 7 when it spilled out in the parking lot.
I was throwing absolute haymaking bombs out in that parking lot. You find out real quick who wants to fight and who was only out there because their friends were involved. The fraternity cockroaches scattered and I got one on one with the original dude that started the fight and settled all family business.
That was at 21 years old. Long gone are those days. Glad I made it out of college alive.
