We were out one day for a picnic at Old Trace Park, overlooking the west side of Barnett Reservoir. She wanted their chicken, they had just opened, and we went there for takeout.

We love Old Trace Park and have not gone back there for take-out chicken salad.

I wouldn’t eat there regularly though. Suburban white women keep it open.

This. Take something you can make or buy at a good deli, scoop it in smaller portions and charge triple. Woof.

I don't hate the place but i sure don't go there alone.

I’ve never seen their diverse offerings at a deli and I sure am not making them at home.

Some of these takes are just silly:
1. Chicken salad is for white women unless it’s from a deli or made at home.
2. Take something simple and charge more. Like a steakhouse? I’d love to see what some of you think a good value is at a restaurant. You can make everything cheaper at home.

I dont know that I would consider it "diverse offerings" when they have 30 different chicken salads that very likely all use the same base with some different nuts, peppers, or spices added.

Diverse might be a menu with Jambalaya, BBQ ribs, Croque Monseiur, and Pho. Not spicy chicken salad, grape chicken salad, and caesar chicken salad.

I have not been, it just sounds very limited. I like chicken salad if chicken is the star of the show, once it gets frou-frou'd up with fruit and nuts, the chicken gets lost in the mix. I was doing a cooking demo at a garden club and they gave me a chicken salad sandwich that had so much silly junk in it that I'm not even sure there was any chicken there.

Fair enough. But I’m guessing they have more ingredients than we have at home. And it is likely more than we might think.

And how many of us are going to make 3 different kinds or more in one sitting?

My mom had a rule when we were kids: If you dont' like i'm making, wait til tomorrow and eat dinner. We were of course welcome to use condiments and spices, which could be how you alter chicken salad. Maybe add some of your own grapes or paprika or something.

It's funny the one in my town had close to 75 part-time employees and would still be short-staffed.

I don't know if management is that soft or what but it doesn't seem to slow them down

I like the jalapeño one the most. All that I have tried needed more salt though Imo.

My one experience: a friend tried to buy some in bulk for a road trip we were going on. They wouldn't sell it to him in bulk because "we don't have enough for the day." He was like, "I have money. You have chicken salad. Why is this difficult?" They still wouldn't sell him the chicken salad, so he left. I think we ended up with coldcuts instead.

It seems logical that you’d have to call ahead for bulk orders. Were y’all trying to get it same day?

No kidding. Who wouldn't call ahead for a large order as described?

How does any burger shop, or steakhouse, or sandwich place stay open? I could make any of those items at home as well.

I guess the answer is pretty simple. If you have to eat away from home that day and want a quick it offers a different option than a fast-food burger or sub-sandwich shop. I have one by my house. I don't eat it all that often. But if I'm looking to pick something up to go and don't want the usual fast-food I'll get a chicken salad sandwich. Is it more expensive than what I could make at home? Of course. Put I'm paying for the convenience of not having to do that if I don't want to.

It wasn't a large order. It was like.. enough chicken salad for like 8 sandwiches (he had bought a local baker's bread).

I actually think the solution he arrived at was, "sell me 8 sandwiches and hold the bread."

I like it. People pay for convenience. With your logic of being able to make it at home, that could be said for any restaurant. Nobody is forcing you to eat there

One pissed off customer better than 12.

But that would aggravate me too. I get 3 or so of their big containers about every three months or so to eat on over the weekend for us. It is pretty affordable. We have a local place that I like better here in town for chick salad, but theirs gives me indigestion in such a bad way I almost always buy CSC now.
