Straight up ranking the top 68 teams would have a lot more upsets and more parity but would be a far worse product.
I do like in basketball how every team still has a shot at the end. Like even years when we go 1-17 in the SEC, we technically can win the NCAAT

And if a mid Major is still good enough like McNeese, they’d still get in. They’re clearly a top 68 team even if most mid majors aren’t

100% agree.
Watching 30 win McNeese is far more intriguing than watching a 17 win mediocre team from a power conference.
