IIRC men and women have essentially the same average IQ but women's is more clustered around the mean, while men have more outliers at both ends of the distribution curve. More geniuses = more chess grandmasters.

I remember a Camille Paglia quote that said something like, “there will never be a female Mozart for the same reason there will never be a female Jack the Ripper.” Reasoning I guess being that men produce more extremes.

men dream of doing something: hitting a home run, robbing a bank, killing somebody

Women dream of being chosen: Cinderella, Miss America, Reality show panels

I’d argue the NBA is a pretty small thing as well. Although I’ll concede ‘meaningless’ was a poor choice of words, as I know both mean a lot to a lot of people. If you feel that way about chess, I apologize

I over reacted. I apologize too.

Maybe we can all agree on this:

Chess >>> WNBA

It's interesting, there isn't a big difference in math performance until kids hit middle school. That's when girls start to seemingly pride themselves on saying they're not good at math (the studies I looked at were split by male/female, and didn't get into ethnicity if I recall.) Math performance declines due to social pressure.

You're a dork if you play chess! What color should we paint our nails?

There are countless games that strength shouldn’t matter but men excel more than women.

Men as evolutionary hunters have better motion and 3D perception. My wife proves that she has much better still image perception when I can't find something in the fridge that is right in front of me.

women are better schemers and planners, so that "should" make them much better chess players.

problem is, women are also very impatient so that hampers them

I think there is another explanation that I got from a study of scrabble champions. Most scrabble players are women, by a lot. Most champions are men. They studied why and concluded that it’s probably due to the fact that the men work harder at it.

Apparently being good at scrabble requires a ton of memorization, and the only people willing to put in the time are men. The reason? There are scrabble groupies, believe it or not. The men want that action and work their asses off for it. Probably the same goes for chess, although I believe the outlier theory, too.
