I grew up with the 40 arpent canal in my back yard. So not only did we catch water snakes quite frequently, we caught water snakes living in a sewage canal. Got bit more times than I can count, and 99% of the time we didn’t even clean the bite with peroxide or anything. We just went about our business. And not once did any of us ever get an infection or any complications from a snake bite.

So can a Bourbon Street hooer.

The things I've always hated about your standard water snakes are:

1 - when running trot lines at night and them falling down on top of me trying to get at my flashlight in the boat.

2 - not being able to tell if it's a watersnake or a moccasin at night, in the boat, after it's just fallen on your head outta the cypress tree.

3 - having a watersnake come cuddle with me in my fart sack while copping some Zs down by the riverbank in the fall. People think watersnakes hibernate in cold weather. They don't, not really. They just slow down.

4 - getting a $5 casting bait hung up in a bush full of watersnakes and having to go in after my bait alongside the riverbank with a fast current pulling at my boat.
