Simms didn’t rip him as bad as Major Applewhite ripped him at Texas lol

He's the most physically gifted QB in the draft. Elite NFL arm talent.

Maye compared to Penix and Nix is a humorously easy decision IMO.

Having said that, he's not a sure thing. And, his play is pretty consistently below his talent level. That's concerning and could be a pretty big sign that, mentally, he doesn't get it the way that the other guys do.

QBs go in the top 10 based on potential all the time.

Anthony Richardson (4)
Zach Wilson (2)
Trey Lance (3)
Daniel Jones (6)
Sam Darnold (2)
Josh Rosen (10)
Mitchell Trubisky (2)
Blake Bortles (3)

Maye’s potential is through the roof.

Doesn't that list say that drafting on raw potential that high normally does not work out too well? Sounds like Simms is saying not to do it with Maye as well. He's ranking them by his own evaluation, not predicting where they'll be drafted.

that list isnt a ringing endorsement of that strategy.

Anthony Richardson (4) - looked good after one year, but its only one year
Zach Wilson (2) - oof
Trey Lance (3) - oof
Daniel Jones (6) - meh
Sam Darnold (2) - oof
Josh Rosen (10) - oof
Mitchell Trubisky (2) - oof
Blake Bortles (3) - oof

yea may be time to stop drafting the most important position on the team so highly based on "potential"

Drake Maye was a can't miss coming out of high school. Was supposed to go to Bama, but went the legacy route at Carolina.

Overall, I don't believe he warrants the hype he is getting for the draft. Carolina really didn't do much while he was there.

Someone do the spidermen pointing meme with Drake Maye, Mitchell Trubisky, and Sam Howell.

Dude has Bo Pix ranked #3. His opinion is irrelevant.

Having watched a lot of UNc football, the coaching staff there is pathetic. Always has been. Even with Mack. They waste top 15 classes yearly with below level expectations for winning and production. No one really grows at UNC.

Maye probably would have been better off just taking that Bama money and bolting.

They were in the ACC title game in 2022. They averaged 34.5 points over the last two seasons, their defense has been arse the last two seasons though. If he played for a bigger name program he would be easily the consensus number one pick. ESPN is determined to have Southern Cal back in their glory days so they have overhyped the hell out of Williams.

Trubisky had one year of middling production. Maye had two years of good-great production. Not a comparison.

if you are seriously putting Maye over Nix, then you really, really have no credibility, whatsoever....

Simms has always been a try hard, unlikable asshat... this just really is more evidence of the try hard part, for sure

This list does not help his "potential is through the roof" case.

I remember Chris Simms crowning Zach Wilson. Comparing him to Mahomes and all. Guy is a clown

Against the literal worst power 5 conference. He had ONE win against a ranked team and it was against #25 Miami who finished the season 7-6.

What you mean "even with Mack"? That's what Mack always did except for the one time Vince wouldn't let him blow it.
