re: Why do poors take so extraordinarily long to check out at convenience stores

Was at a less than reputable gas station in the town over coming home from work a few years ago. Youth walks in to buy a "cigar" and a bowling pin. Cashier (and owner) says that will be 3.27 or whatever. Guy digs through his pockets for what seemed like 5 minutes and puts about 1.50ish on the counter.

Knowing it wasn't enough, he just tells the cashier that he will get him next time and walks out. I just witnessed a theft. The cashier is visibly angry and I go to pay for the 50+ of gas I just pumped (no credit card at pump). I jokingly told him that I didn't have enough and would get him next time. He did not think my joke was funny.
