We saw winter hummingbirds across South Louisiana since October. The bulk of summer migrants usually show up just before St Patrick's Day in much of Louisiana, but a few will be a bit earlier to places which have had flowers and/or feeders out early in years past. They remember. Planting Red Buckeye is a great plan since they like it, it produces a lot of nectar and it blooms about when they arrive. We have 5 small feeders which get drained in two days so we never get mold issues.
They are a lot of fun to watch.
