The salary cap just had a huge bump, there will be another increase in 2025, there’s going to be 16 QBs earning at least $40M this season, and the ceiling is about to hit $60M.

That still doesn't make it smart. Paying Mahomes money for above average to pretty good QBs is the fastest way to make sure you're never in Super Bowl contention.

I know he gets a lot of hate, but that Quarterback series on Netflix made Captain Kirk one of my favorite QBs in the league.

Just a solid dude who loves his family and tries his damn hardest. He’s such a good guy

Atlanta will trade for Fields and waste another 4 seasons. Such a dumb franchise. If I was gonna waste another 4 years I’d take Daniels in the draft and roll the dice that he is the next Mahomes.

I don't think so.

He doesn't fit what Robinson does on offense.

Cousins is the play here. Pay him 3 years/$85-90 MIL, draft JJ at 8, and in 2-3 years JJ takes over.

I guess you don't want to win then.

You aren't guaranteed to win by drafting a QB at 8 or by moving up.

Sign Cousins. Draft JJ at 8 to study under him for 2-3 years and you have your succession plan.

Giving a 36 year old QB coming off a torn Achilles a 3 year fully guaranteed contract has absolutely zero chance of backfiring whatsoever.

This would be an astronomically stupid decision by the Falcons, so naturally I expect them to do it.

What would you do?

It depends on what the team wants to do. Do they want to try and open a Super Bowl window, or do they want to try and win 10 games and get clobbered in a home playoff game?

I like Cousins. I do. I don't like him at 3/$120M fully guaranteed, which is probably what it would take.

I'd trade the 2024 1st, 2025 1st, 2024 2nd, 2025 3rd, and one of Kyle Pitts, Bijan Robinson, or AJ Terrell to Washington for the #2 pick and take Jayden Daniels. I'd also sign someone like Jacoby Brissett to a 1 year deal to start while Daniels puts on some weight and gets up to speed.

Which is why no one is paying Cousins, Mahomes money-- 45M dollars a year is Daniel Jones type money, depending on how they load it in the deal-- and this is on the front end. In another 3 years, 45M might well not even be in the top half of QB salaries.

Remember, the top end of the NFL QB pay scale sits closer to 60M per year in cap hit.

Blank wants to win now though. Drafting Daniels doesn't necessarily ensure that. Bringing Cousins in does. I understand the concern about his Achilles. That's fair. But also remember that Dan Marino had the same injury at about the same age and came back fine. And that was 25 years ago when the medical science wasn't nearly as advanced as it is now.

Pay Cousins 3 years/$90 MIL. That's 30 MIL AAV. Draft McCarthy at 8. He learns under Cousins and he takes over in either 2026 or 2027.

Holy frick.

If you give up that compensation and miss on Daniels, it sets the Falcons back a decade.

Yeah, no
Guy is mediocre as hell. The Falcons would be lucky to win 8 games. And Arthur ain't playing that.

I feel more like it’ll be, sign Cousins and then draft Turner at 8. Falcons still need help in the pass rushing department that gives them some solid help. Assuming Cousins stays healthy, the Falcons with a solid QB and good defense is a pretty strong team especially in the weak NFC

That'd play too.

I wouldn't be opposed to them moving back into the back end of the first and drafting Penix in that situation and have him be Cousins' successor.

Let's remember also, Cousin's wife is from Alpharetta. Born and raised. Went to UGA. That's gonna be in play here. Happy wife, happy life.

It’s gonna take more than 30 per for cousins.

Your take on JJ is downright terrible

I can see the Falcons going 3/100. That's 33.3 AAV.

JJ is polarizing, I get it.

But the kid has all the makeup of being a stud in the league. At worst, he'll be the second best QB in this class after either Daniels or Maye

You’re gonna need to add 10-15 mil to that AAV. Price of a brick has gone up.

Huh? That would make him 3rd best QB in this class if you’re saying Daniels and Maye are better. He’s not even that. His last 6 games he threw for 800 yds and 4 TDs.

I think Maye will be the best QB in this class. And it won't be particularly close IMO.

Holy short sample size Batman. You have to go by his entire career and his tape. Not a 6 game snippet.

This board also thought that Mac Jones was the next Brady.

Disagree.

Remember Marino? Same injury at roughly the same age and he came back strong.
