Watched an episode of this last night and I'm intrigued. Looks much better than that shitshow True Detective Season 4. Does it keep the high standard throughout, or does it fall apart? Should I be expecting jump scares and one-eyed grizzly bears in the later episodes?

It’s a very good series. Winslet is teriffic, and there is a real twist at the end.

this, HoD, Last of Us, and Peacemaker are the last good things I've watched and liked on Max. Mare is probably the best of thing I've watched on there in 5 or so years.

I remember is this show came out right around the same time as Mayor of Kingstown and I kept getting them mixed up

I finally broke down and watched it recently and it was a solid show for sure. Had some "Gracepoint/Broadchurch" vibes mixed in there.

Broadchurch is a very good comparison. Fantastic performances across the board (Kate Winslet is great), a deeply flawed main detective, a good mystery that hooks you in, but there's kind of a goofy conclusion. It's not so bad of an ending that you regret watching the show -- I'm looking at you The Killing -- but they don't exactly stick the landing.

i watched it recently as well for the first time. definitely worth the watch. solid season, solid ending. no complaints.

Mare should have been TD season 2 or 4. Way better than either of those seasons and on par if not better than season 3. Worth a watch for sure.

I just did a rewatch of Mare. Was even better the second go around. I honestly had forgotten about the twist at the end. Very well done.
i think Chernobyl is within the past 5 years. That would be tops for me. IMO, the best mini-series ever, even better than Band of Brothers.
