That was pretty brutal but a good lesson for youth players. When playing the ball back to the keeper, ideally the keeper steps to either side of the goal so the pass wouldn’t be on frame if it’s a bad pass or if the goalie messes up the kick.

Played highschool, college and for the military.....playing on turf always screwed up the play of the ball. I whiffed many times on "turf" kicks. Sucks for this kid that it was for state championship. That's futbol!

That's terrible for the keeper. Poor kid is going to replaying that moment in his head for the rest of his life.
As for the field...it is a damn shame that kids have to play on a field lined for football in the State Championship. I played in two state championships at Tad Gormley, which was turf, but it was VERY nice and lined for soccer. It was a great experience both times.

Both head coaches of HC and BF coached me at one point. Rough way to end the championship.
Edit: Never mind, my old coach is the BF girl's coach. I talked to HC coach the day after this at Jesuit-Catholic game.

In high wchool, it was quarters and a trip to state, 1-0. Lead, 88th minute. And out defender just smokes a back pass to goalie, nut megging goalie for tie and they win in pk's
Goalie rolled it to defender and told him to play it up field kick it downfield he gets in trouble. Guy is 30 yards and makes a fake run at him, he fires it back at goalie. Boom
