What are the benefits of doing a 3 day water fast besides weight loss?

If you ate like that regularly you probably wouldn’t have to do extreme 3 day fasts

There is a lot of good stuff on youtube if you wanna do a deep dive. There is good research that it reduces risk for cancer. It gives your digestive system time to rest which could be good if you are dealing with inflammation. It can reset your appetite if you are really determined to make a drastic diet change.

Beyond that, and maybe even most importantly, its an exercise in discipline. There are also Biblical reasons for it but I wont get into that.

*I feel like im spamming this thread but fasting has always been an interest of mine. Ive done a couple of 5+ day fasts, many 3 day fasts, and tons of 24 hour(OMAD is this technically)

Exactly what source do you use for electrolyte supplements during longer fast. Is there a pill or powder at GNC that has the needed combination?

Himalayan salt gives me the sodium but not the others

The longest fast ive done is 3 days. It was not nearly as hard as I expected. My mood and energy went up and down throughout the process so I'm not sure if its something I would do again. It was pretty awesome to do at least once though to feel what it would have been like for our ancestors so often. One of the coolest parts I noticed was that my smell got way better around the third day. Almost like my body was in hunting mode and ready for the kill.

There are plenty of flavored electrolyte tabs available. Nuun is a popular one. The company I order from is Zym. Zym.com is the website. I use them when doing longer endurance exercises and also to sip on during the day. But you can also get unflavored powder to mix with water or juices.

I’ve done a couple of 3day fasts in the last 3 months. It’s really interesting how your body reacts. I could feel stomach grumbling but not really due to hunger…it really reset my desire for crappy food and cut my down on how much I can intake for the first little while back into eating. I think it’s a great thing to do almost like a tune up for your vehicle. Definitely be careful what you eat coming off the fast. I went right back into normal food on my first one and it wasn’t the best. I took it easier on the 2nd one I just finished and it was a better transition. I was drinking one 24oz container of water with LMNT each day as I was also continuing my workout routine. I plan to do it every quarter and after the next one I’m going to push it up to 5 days. Kind of looking forward to it. As another poster stated it’s really a great test of discipline.

I could only get through 48hours. Sitting on the sofa watching the Bama/TN game broke me and I had some cabbage salad and a few crackers.

I’ll try again when I get back from vacation next week.

I think I've mentioned this on here before, but I read a book about 10-15 years ago by a Jewish doctor (I think MD, but could have been Phd) who was having severe stomach issues in his 20s, I believe. Tried all kinds of med, every diet known to man, nothing worked. He was a physical mess and it lead to psychological/mental health issues, and maybe even suicidal thoughts. ***

Anyway, I can't remember if this is all he did, the main thing he did, or just a big part of the protocol he eventually found, but he began fasting 24 hours 1 day every week. I believe the fasting may have begun as part of his Jewish faith and for the spiritual benefits, but the continuous doing helped his gut issues, and now we know the many benefits of regular caloric deficit.

And he wasn't trying to lose weight, quite the opposite. But if you just don't consume 2,000-3,000 calories one day a week for 52 weeks, it would certainly add up for long-term weight loss and seem a good strategy for keeping it off, but he felt like it was a great reset for his digestive health and whatever other systems the body might benefit from due to fasting, and just doing it once a week worked great for him. Likely not for everybody, nothing ever is.

I tried it for a couple of weeks--and I don't eat breakfast, so it wound up being a 36-hour fast for me--and it wasn't difficult, and I felt better afterwards. But I tried to do it on Sundays, and too much of my life at the time revolved around eating with the family or football games or whatever, so I didn't stick to it. I wonder how I'd feel know if I had. I also wonder if he still does it. shite, he may have a new book out by now screaming from the rooftops about the dangers of it.

***Btw, I've dealt with stomach issues for almost 20 years, and I've told my doctors a handful of times that I personally haven't seen any data to support this, I'd bet just about anything there's a significant correlation between chronic stomach issues and suicides. I have to condition this by assuring them I am not suicidal and would never do anything to harm myself, this is just a theory. Although there have been times I've been so miserable that I wonder if I didn't have a wife and kids if I might be capable of entertaining it).
