I watched The Marvels the other night as I have seen all of the MCU movies. This was the worst movie to date in the MCU.

They misspelled “disinterested”.

Audiences don't like Disney movies as of late and aren't watching

Disney execs attack and insult audiences for not wanting to watch.

Audiences, after being attacked and insulted, have even more animosity toward Disney and will watch even less

Yet all it would take is a regular, well told princess story without any preachy bullshite with a few catchy songs and they'd kill it. It's mind blowing how they have a license to print money with the name Disney and they're repeatedly fricking it up.

Coco
Encanto
Zootopia
Moana

All would be considered "woke" but were huge successes. Why weren't audiences too bigoted for those? I would suggest someone dick punch the exec but they probably would like it.

You know what's not being discussed or considered by Disney?

Disney is selling a product(s). Movies, streaming services, ESPN, etc- none of it is free.

The consumer is not mandated to purchase ANYTHING, and is free to employ whatever prejudices, biases, and preferences they like. It's the consumer's money.

It's poor business to antagonize your potential market. If you're unable to gain market share (as has been occurring recently with a lot of Disney products), the CORRECT business move is to research better, and provide something appealing to that market. Not attack it, but adjust your product accordingly.

Having Rey be a Mary Sue isn’t her fault and she did the best with what she had to work with.

this.
a couple of quick "throwaway" lines or one extra scene or two changes everything and makes her acceptable.

Showing Luke as having a workshop and cleaning/maintenancing Droids took what 30 seconds of screentime in A New Hope? And they did a good job of incorporating that into him seeing the Leia video.

That tells us he's mechanically inclined and knows a few things about technology. So when he does something later, it makes sense.

Rey never shows us anything of the sort. We know nothing about her at all. She lives in broken shite and collects scraps. But she knows how to fix the Falcon somehow.

Obi Wan telling Luke "I hear you've become a fine pilot".
One sentence. But it tells us that he's been flying around enough to have built a reputation. So when he does fancy flying, it makes sense.

Rey, some orphan that collect junk just magically knows how to be an amazing pilot.
throw us a sentence in there somewhere that tells us it's not her first time doing something.

fix just those 2 things, and your audience is already more invested n her and you can get away with a lot more after that.

I've never thought of any of those four as woke. Just because a movie has a female or minority main character doesn't make it woke. It just has to make sense.

That’s what I was getting at. You can have any theme you want and if it’s well told it will do well. That’s done well for them historically. Parents REALLY want entertainment options for kids.

When you start shoehorning in DEI for no reason other than a quota and your storytelling takes a backseat, you get what you’ve seen lately.

I do think the sexual identity bridge is too far for a lot of parents out there still though. I’d be willing to bet if polled they don’t want anything more than a little prince/princess flirting in the movies their little kids are consuming.

I just don’t know any of the characters really - or care enough. Only saw Captain Marvel once. Never saw the Disney+ show with the younger girl and never finished the Nick Fury show - so boring. I thought the Eternals was super bad. The last Thor and Ant Man weren’t great either.

Once everything devolved even further, I kinda lost interest in all of it.

Just like Star Wars, you can just take so much crap before you don’t care anymore and move on.

Seeing news like this is not surprising in the least.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), every Disney movie/show from the past few years get summed up pretty well in Pitch Meetings. No need to pay money when everything's covered in five minutes or less.

Other companies are better at what they supposedly do and their competitors do fewer obnoxious things

If Universal's new park in Orlando is successful, Disney will need to be very worried. Currently Walt Disney World is doing better than any other segment of the company, and they aren't investing in it.

ETA: Or they invest in the parks stupidly, like the Star Wars Battlecruiser that was obviously never going to be successful and should have never made it out of the idea phase and the retheme of Splash Mountain that no one who actually pays to visit the theme parks actually wants.
