I installed Avanan at my company (large enterprise) a few years ago. That would be my #1 recommendation and it’s not really close.
They got purchased by Checkpoint so they are now called CheckPoint Harmony Email Security but it’s the same product.
Painless install and you don’t have to change your mx records. Install is minutes since it is all API based.
You could also look at their API based competitor Abnornal Security, but we went with Avanan for some technical reasons.
ETA: Avanan can compliment the existing Microsoft 365 Defender functionality - it doesn’t have to replace it. We use both for a layered approach.
