He is raw, but this is kinda what we’ve see all spring and throughout high school. I agree with Ben’s assessment, he’s twisting rather than following through with your weight distribution going towards your target, which results in inconsistent release points. He’ll get there one day but this is something you figure out over time, it won’t get fixed right away.

Humbling experience. Let’s see him believe in himself and be open to coaching.

He showed plenty of nerves, so I can't judge him too much from his first outing. He'll be fine.

I watch six or eight LSU games with a former LSU pitcher. He points out stuff like Ben does all the time - stuff I would never notice. But that doesn’t mean he could go out there and coach it as well as LSU’s staff.

Ben broke down the mechanical issue he’s having. Looks pretty correctable.

He ain’t even close. His time will come.

Exactly. He is a raw, talented FR who needs to spend some time with Moffet and transform his body into what Moffet now looks like as a SO.
6'3" 220 lb and dotting 96 on that last K to end the game. 3 up, 3 down. He looks like he is ready to contribute in 2024.

Johnson definitely looked rough, or perhaps raw, but the potential looks to be there. I agree with the poster who said he'll likely see a lot of midweek work early to (hopefully) get him prepared for an emerging role in the back half of the season.

Moffett looked MUCH improved in his admittedly short outing. On TV i thought they said he only had one outing last year but i thought i remembered a couple and they were rough. It would be great if he has gotten it under control.

MLB teams don’t give two shits about one inning of work.

I’d also add that in high school MLB doesn’t give a shite about control especially when you’re left handed and can touch 95. Cam will be fine. It was his first appearance in college. If you don’t think nerves had anything to do with it you’re crazy.

Ben said he was flying open early which causes the ball to stay on his arm side missing away from RHB’s, which is where he missed most of his pitches.

I see why he chose school over the pros

Probably didn’t have the draft stock the media was projecting. It was also probably best for both sides for him to get into a good program and work on some stuff. I know his arm was wearing down last season, and his velocity was dipping. Better mechanics will help his command and stamina.
